For novices like me perhaps this will help you avoid some stupid mistakes:

    1) in OS/X 10.5 install of SqueezeCenter 7 the install directory for iPeng is indeed [user]\Application Support\SqueezeCenter\html (at least this worked for me) I believe this is changed from OS/X 10.4

    2) for the truly braindead (like I must have been an hour ago when I posted) you can't use 'localhost' on your ipod touch or iphone, you need to use the ip address on your local network....something like 192.168.1.x:9000/ipeng. This will of course vary depending on your router and config of your home network.
That's why I didn't find it easy to give a better explanation ;-)

iPeng is fabulous! Thank you. One odd thing: mobile safari won't let me bookmark the 192.xxx URL. Any idea why?
No idea. Works perfect for me. It's just a bit difficult, since you have to scroll down the address bar, which will switch back up after a few 100ms and then be quick to click the "+"-Icon.
I will have to remember to add an "add bookmark" option to the settings menu.
For those who did the jailbreak (it's so easy, so why not?), you can use the method described on the iPeng mail page to install an icon on the start screen, that's what I use. Actually I've got two, one for home and one for remote access. You can even add a username/password combination with the url (ok, that works with bookmarks as well) to use restricted access.

    Have fun with it.

that was it....didn't realize the menubar was hidden at the top. Thanks -- iPeng is just brilliant - thank you for your hard work on this.

Thanks for implementing this skin! (Although calling it a skin is somewhat downgrading - this has the feel of a native app.) This was the only reason I upgraded to 7.0 and it was totally worth it.

Really intuitive to use as well, the only thing that wasn't obvious to me was panning an re-arranging of playlists. Fortunately it is described well in the manual.

I registered just to say WOW

Really amazing work and it has an enormous potential!

Q: Where does it get the album art from?
Will it display the album art from the iTunes library that iTunes automatically stores in it's artwork folder?

    It depends.
iPeng is a skin for SqueezeCenter, so that's where it gets the Album Cover from. SqueezeCenter in turn, gets the cover from the ID3-tag or from album jpegs in the album folder (e.g. folder.jpg). You can get the details here: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?AlbumArtwork
I think an album scanner that is able to read Apple's database is something that would really suit SqueezeCenter well ;-)

So if I understand correctly, the album art from iTunes will not be displayed and you have to manually add the artwork to your file-database?

It depends on whether iTunes stored the cover in the ID3-tag (old behavior) or just in the iTunes database (new behavior). Also, depending on your source, the MP3 file may have an artwork from another source in the tag. I am not sure, what iTunes music store actually does... Most others do put covers in the tags.

I'm not sure how this works with iPeng and SqueezeCenter 7 but I have the iTunesUpdate plugin (http://www.jamescraig.co.uk/SlimServer) running under SS 6.5 and it offers the option to use the downloaded iTunes artwork.

This works for me using the default skin, so presumably if all the skins call some API method to get the artwork this should work for iPeng?

I'm really looking forward to be able to use the Custom Browse plugin together with this skin, so for me support for third party plugins are important.

Thanks for making this available, keep up the good work and let us know if there are any specific parts you would like help implementing or testing.
Now... it's probably time for that ;-)
I think I could use your help on the Custom Browse plugin.
TECHNICALLY, that works now, but to make it look good, I think you will need a custom custombrowse_list.html file to make the layout nice and to handle the "sort by" options.

CustomBrowse puts all controls to the left of the text container, while iPeng distributes has the "add" control on the right and the "play" option embedded in the filename, so the control blocks in the "controls" variable should be distributed between "leftcontrols", "rightcontrols" and a link parameter called "textlink". I can provide you with a sample (the xmlbrowse.html used for internet radio).

    Wanna go for it?

    Cheers,

    Joerg

I can hand you a development version of iPeng to play around with the capabilities

Great, send me the development version or put up a link somewhere and I'll take a look. If you have some sample that would be great.
If you like to send the development version and not post a link, you can send it to: erland_i at hotmail.com
