Here's a little applet which beta testers may want to try out. The idea is to allow you to use menus on your player which which are not yet supported natively on jive (such as most of my plugins).
The applet displays the player display on jive and allows you to navigate using it. Jive screen is too narrow for the full SB2/3 display so you get a cut down version, but if you tip the remote on its side you will find the full player display fits..
To install you will need to scp onto the remote at present, create a directory /usr/share/jive/applets/RetroBrowser and unzip the attached files into it. [I'm hoping a simpler way will come soon...]
The applet uses some compiled code so the version attached will only run on the hardware platform rather than the emulators.
I'd be interested in feedback of how useful and how responsive people find it.

I just stumbled on this. (Almost) terrific. It lets me see player info for the receiver, and mess with plugins. Thanks.
The almost is because it doesn't scroll or wrap text, so even in the smallest text mode some facts are truncated - player mac address is an example. Long titles as well - but I don't care about that since I see this as an escape from the limits of the standard jive interface.
(I'm running 7.1 with jive r2435)

Yes the server does not send scrolling messages to it, this was deliberate when it was first created as scrolling created lots of updates which loaded up the remote and server. Now things are more efficient on the client it may be possible to enable scrolling - I'll look some time.

I can't get it to work, it doesn't add an entry to the Extra menu. Is there anything obvious I could have got wrong ?

Please try the version attached to the wiki page:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph...zePlay_Applets
You should just need to install it as a SC plugin, restart SC and then it will be available via Applet Insaller on the controller.
Note this version will only run in the controller (not the desktop emulator) as it includes code compiled specifically for the controller.

I'd love to be able to do that, but as of the last week or so my Applet Installer screen doesn't work. I've just tried again, trying to use it to install the RetroBrowser, but I'm afraid I just get a blank Applet Installer screen that you can exit (though you can go "Home").
Edit:
I did however manage to manually install that copy of the plugin from the wiki and it is working fine, thanks.Last edited by andynormancx; 2008-05-17 at 15:45.
