    A pleasant surprise

I've just bought a couple of (lo-fi) wireless speakers for the kitchen, they are supposed to auto-tune to the correct frequency. They worked straight away....without me even connecting the transmitter unit. I'm presuming the SB3 is sending out the signal - nothing else could be. I didn't even know it did that! Nice one!

Something's not right here. The SB3 has no such capability.

What frequency do the speakers use? 900 MHz? 2.4 GHz? The SB3 has a 2.4 GHz radio transceiver but it's for wireless networking, and the music is sent to it via an 802.11b/g signal - i.e. digital. Even if you could tune into it, it would be nothing but noise. In fact, it's two steps away from music - if you could interpret the signal you'd get bits. You then have to decode it using the appropriate codec.

This just doesn't make sense. You must be tuning into something else.

I thought it didn't make sense. It must the wireless headphone base that they are picking up - I'd forgetten about that.
