    Track vs. tracks

Sorry, Andy, my use of "track" rather than "tracks" has mislead you. What I meant by "a track" was any track in the 185 that I uploaded to the Locker. These are "WMA" files.

Well this may be your problem. I'm surprised it let you upload wav
files without an error, since they are not supported. You can only
upload mp3, wma, ogg, or aac files.

    WMA not WAV (typo)

Thanks for the fast reply, so fast in fact that you didn't see the edit to my message a few minutes after I posted it changing "WAV" to "WMA". The files are in fact the latter.

There is a problem with WMA that I'm looking into, for now I've set these to be transcoded to MP3 on the mp3tunes server side. So it should be working for you now.

Thanks, it is working now. I guess you will post to this thread when the WMA problem has been fixed. Appreciate the help.

    MP3 Tunes so far...

I thought I would give MP3Tunes a shot as I love the idea of being able to leave my computer off. So I converted all of my FLAC to Ogg at -q10 (500kps) and uploaded. The sound quality was good but I was getting intermittent skipping/stuttering. So, I deleted my Ogg files and reconverted all of my FLAC files to Ogg -q8 (256kps) and the skipping was gone.

HOWEVER, the music now sounds slightly less clear to me. Still good quality but somehow not as "wow that sounds good" as you get streaming FLAC through slimserver. I do notice a flatness to the music... again, not bad but it is there.

So now I'm undecided if I want to stick with listening to MP3Tunes or revert back to slimserver. Although I am no audiophile, I do enjoy quality over my system. Does anyone have any thoughts to add? Is it as simpe as deciding on the tradeoff between quality and convenience? I would love to hear where others are on this decision and MP3Tunes. Otherwise, I think it is a wonderful service...

    Upload experience

    gthal,

Have been very curious about the Locker. Was wondering what your upload (at 256kps) experience was like - how many tunes took how long to upload through what kind of connection. Any info much appreciated.

I uploaded approximately 1,400 songs in Ogg format (-q8 256kps). Took about 28 hours or so (if I remember correctly) to upload over a cable internet connection (I was getting 120kps upload +/- speeds). I just set it and let it go.

Overall it works great... my only complaint is the sound quality, to my ears anyway, was better with FLAC through Slimserver than 256kps Ogg from MP3Tunes.

We should get confirmation from Slimdevices, but I think the ogg decoder is the "standard" one (if it exists), e.g. the one used in foobar2000. Then just use this player with AB/X testing (double blind test) extension to see if you can actually spot any difference between a properly encoded track at -q8 and the original. I really doubt, but just try...

A very good site site IMHO is Hydrogenaudio (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/). Go to http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/...howtopic=16295 for ABX tests.

Also, try aoTuV b5 encoder for ogg: http://www.rarewares.org/ogg-libraries.php

Maybe this thread will catch your interest: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/...howtopic=51289
