    Customising the tags to scrobble

I get last.fm moaning at me because I like to use 'lastname, firstname' as my artist tag. I want them both sorted and displayed that way.

Trying to get aliases etc on Musicbrainz does not help - last.fm doesn't use the info correctly anyway.

Therefore, the best solution for me would be to have custom tags for last.fm submission, I think. If we created a tag called 'lastfmartist', say, and configured the scrobbler to submit this (when present), then I would be sorted.

Is this possible? Any better solutions?

    Hi Adam,

Have you looked at "artist sort order"? I use it, and it keeps David Bowie with the B instead of sorted with the D. It displays David Bowie (which is his stage name, not Bowie, David )

It keeps LastFM happy as well...

    Cheers

    Matt

Thing is, I'd be perturbed by seeing a list sorted by surname but showing first name. I have thought about this, and decided that I value sensible lists over last.fm completeness. Naturally, though, I am looking for a way to achieve both

Last.fm is fed by user-generated tags -- they can either adjust to the
reality of what users generate, or they can fade into irrelevancy
after getting replaced by someone who can adjust to the reality of
what users generate. They may also chose to spend some time anf energy
trying to create and enforce some sort of standard, which is basically
a delaying tactic before succumbing to option two.

Every time I go to my user page and see their complaints about my
kid's audiobooks being tagged JK Rowling instead of J.K. Rowling, I am
further convinced that last.fm is in a headlong rush towards option
    two.

I reckon you're probably right. We should rejoice in schadenfreude and laugh at them as their doom approaches. Annoying, though, as I quite like the service, in principle.
