    New Developer here

    Hello,

I am fairly new to the Slimserver and Squeezeboxes. I have been an audiofile most of my life and a professional software developer/engineer for the last 10 years. I have been extremely excited about everything I have seen with slim devices so far. I was working on building (99% done) a player plugin into Jinzora that would control the slimserver ClI so I could use jinzora as my interface for playing all my ripped music to squeezboxes. The more I have learned about slimserver I believe that the entire module was a waste of time. I should have been talking to you guys here from the beggining. You already have such a solid base of functionality that I would have a very hard time replicating into jinzora. Slimserver is missing some very cool features that jinzora had though.

I am hoping to build a very modified web interface for slimserver that does many of the things that jinzora did (lyrics, similar music, album reviews, ajax album art for genre you are in, etc). My aim is to build an interface that I can sell as a custom audio solution (fully configured rackmount system) to high end customers (CEO types).

Is the developer community here very open? Do people come and go as they please? How are you all organized etc?

    Thanks for your time,

    Sounds great!

Terrific. Do you plan on distributing the source freely? (There's
no right answer to this question, by the way, there are both open and
closed source software that work with SlimServer.)

    We try to be.

Logitech (formerly Slim Devices) hosts the web sites, source
repository, wiki, etc and has a few paid engineers, QA folk, etc.
We also distribute the software and support the hardware/software
product combination. Oh, and we make and sell the award-winning
    Squeezebox and Transporter players.

The software developers use this forum to talk about writing plugins,
adding features and/or fixing bugs to the core SlimServer software,
etc... So you are in the right place...

    Again, Welcome!

I usually work on enterprise level business and manufacturing systems so this is a pretty big switch up for me. I run my own small company that is a loosely affiliated group of consultants.

I am trying to convince one of the other consultants that I work with to join in this project with me. I really haven't thought about the details of how everything is going to work yet.

We will have to see how things materialize.

I have these crazy ideas about once a year. Sometimes they work out well and sometimes they disappear.
