Telnet and qnap 101 = a little help please!

As in title really, complete novice at telnet and wouldn't mind a little help!

I've decided to go ahead and reinstall slimserver as it seems to have crashed. Here's what I've done so far

1)Map the qnap to my network.

2)Using the cmd prompt (using windows xp)and got the telnet prompt up (also checked that the firmware version on the qnap is correct for telnet use).

3)Typed "o" for "open host port", at the prompt I then enter in my qnaps ip address along with 13131 (as per instructions on the qnap page).

After I have done this procedure it then comes up with :-
"connecting to telnet...Could not open connection on port xxxxxxxx :connect failed(xxxx being my qnaps ip address).

So at this point I'm stumped as I don't know telnet at all. Tried downloading putty and that had the same result.

    Any suggestions gratefully recieved!

    Cheers...

Have you checked you have T at the end of your QNAP firmware number? That means that Telnet is supported.

Current firmware version: 2.0.0 Build 0105T

    That means telnets enabled yes?

I take it you're following the instructions on this website? http://www.progressiveav.com/ts101_u...tall/ts101201/

As Seineseeker has said, you need to ensure you have a "T" on the end of your firmware version number.

The easiest way to enable telnet on your qnap (and get the "T") is to download and install the firmware from here: http://www.progressiveav.com/ts101_update/

Apologies if you've already done this. Just trying to help ;-)

Edit: Sorry, your response arrived whilst I was typing mine. Yes, that's the correct version.

Well the firmware looks like the correct version, if i was you i would try putty to telnet to it, or perhaps the optware firmware, there are downloads at http://www.lockstockmods.net/downloads.php?cat_id=5 and an article on using them at http://www.lockstockmods.net/readart...?article_id=26 hope this helps

Thanks for the reply but I actually managed to get it working without resorting to telnet in the end!

I have downloaded the firmware provided on the site from lockstockmods. I have updated my QNAP TS-101. I tried to telnet using Putty and port 13131. I get:
PuTTY Fatal Error -> Network error: Connection refused.

Is there anything else that I need to do?

I have checked and the firmware is listed as:
    Version 2.0.1 Build 0212T

I have restarted the QNAP device several times. Am I missing a step somewhere?

The firmware you have applied is the Optware one, this should work without any problems, the only thing i can think is either ur using the wrong ip for the qnap, or you have a firewall blocking communication with it
*edit* i have tried putting the wrong ip in and it times out, not connection refused, i use this particular firmware myself, and havent had any issues at all =/ the connection refused is what i was getting before i used a telnet enabled firmware i think =/

Which username / password combination are you using? make sure you spell administrator correctly as this is the only one which is allowed. Also try the default password 'admin' just in case it was reset.
