Could anyone recommend some good headphones? They will be for use at work to listen to music streamed directly from my PC. It is important that they aren't "leaky" - I don't want to annoy my colleagues.
Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about the different types that are available, so rather than buy blind I wondered if anybody has any suggestions.

For high-end gear check out: http://www.head-fi.org/
But for listening at work, you might consider noise cancelling headphones. I recently got several kinds of them to find out which is best, and the Bose QC3 work astonishingly well. Way better than the QC2 and surprisingly more comfortable despite being "on the ear" as opposed to "around". The Sony ones barely work at all, and the Sennheisers actually _add_ a considerable amount of white noise, while subtracting absolutely nothing.
If you think like me, that Bose stuff generally sounds like crap, you're in for a big surprise!Last edited by seanadams; 2007-01-28 at 17:12.

Sony MDR-V6. Under $65 on Amazon, can be driven by pretty much anything (MP3 players work fine), and will last a lifetime (although you may need to replace the pads once a decade if you're hardcore). They are the exact same thing as the more expensive Sony MDR-7506, without the gold stereo plug.

Look at Shure E-series headphones,
http://www.shure.com/PersonalAudio/P...ries/index.htm
They are sound isolating, meaning they seal off your ear to outside noises. They also seal in the sound so don't leak very much either. They are superb sounding (way better than Bose IMO).

Headphones
I will second the Shure E2c "ear-buds" I've also had the Bose and the Shure sound quality is much better, IMHO.

An alternative to Shure is Etymotic Research. I use ER6is with my iPod and they sound great.

I have a pair of Etymotic ER-4Ps that I think are great. They
provide 20 to 25 db of acoustic isolation so you can listen to your
music at reasonable levels in relatively noisy environments. They
are in-canal earphones, though, which I know not everyone likes.
Also, if you're at work using them, you're not going to hear the
people around you if someone phones, talks to you, etc. very well.
Lots of good info is at http://www.head-fi.org

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will definitely look into the noise cancelling ones. My buying decision will also be based on what is available here in the UK, which is probably a smaller section than in the USA.
