Hmm, ok - I still in the dark here, The first tim I installed FreeNAS/SlimNAS everyting was OK, no troubles, but now I can't get Slimserver to start at all.
The slimnas.tgz file is too big for email, so I can't ask you to send me the one you downloaded to see if there is any difference.

Hmmm
I'm running embedded from USB
No I've not edited any files - just did a clean install of FreeNAS/SlimNAS (first FreeNAS 0.685b2 then RC1 - same issues on both)
All files downloaded directly to the FreeNAS box with firefox.
Thanks for your experience/help.

I unstalled the installation (as best I could) using the facilities within the FreeNAS / SlimNAS installation. I then pulled the slimnas.tgz file from Michael's web site along with the matching slimnas-install.sh and downloaded the latest nightly build for v.6.5.x.
I then:
1. Deleted anything / everything from my existing SlimNAS installation directories (using rm -R) including the top level installation directories as well (in my case /mnt/Disk3/SlimServer and /mnt/Disk3/slimnas - as I said earlier I was having problems with screwed up installations so I had multiple installation directories). I wasn't bothered about trying to save anything from my previous installations as it was too screwed up to be worthwhile.
2. Created a new installation directory (/mnt/Disk3/slimnas), copied the slimnas.tgz, slimnas-istall.sh and the nightly build file to the new directory.
3. Ran the installer as per Michael's instructions.
4. After the installation was complete, I reconfigured SlimNAS as I wanted and tried some reboots of FreeNAS to make sure SlimNAS survived these, which it did.
5. Listened to my music, in my case via a Roku Soundbridge.
6. Job Done.

I downloaded from Michaels site with IE7 but I wouldn't have expected Firefox to make a difference unless for some reason the files have come down as ascii / text rathert han binary for soem reason ?

Chris
Your description sounds exactly like my previous experiences with FreeNAS / SlimNAS :-)
And your way of installing it is exactly the same as I've use now, with the difference of formating before install.
Will try to do a reformat of the USB flash disk - It's not as if I loose anything by trying once more by doing a new install.
The comment about ff was mostly cause ie tend (or was this before ie7?) to change file endings for .tgz / .gz files - nothing more.
Again - Thanks for your feedback!

SlimNAS 0.4 no cliport!?
Anyone but me that don't get a cliport?
Running FreeNAS 0.685b2 with SlimNAS 0.4 and SlimServer_v6.5.4.no-cpan-arch.tar.gz
For all I can see this should work but a 'netstat -al' on the FreeNAS machine shows no 9090 port.
A telnet to 9090 is also no go.
Anyone?
Everything else is OK.
/JoNAS...
