[Announce] SlimNAS 0.1 -SlimServer on FreeNAS

    > Is there a possibility to restart Squeezecenter installed via slimnas?
    > This without having to restart the freenas server?

Just disable/enable it from the web UI.

    Michael:

I'm sure you heard this before... but this is amazing. Works like a charm on my Intel Atom. I've got 2 questions. Well, actually 1 question and one "begging-on-my-knees" request.

Question: When I switch music sources for my receivers they perform a firmware upgrade. I understand that the firmware from SqueezeCenter on the net has different firmware than SqueezeCenter on slimnas. Where do I get the firmware files from, and where do I put them on FreeNas?

Begging: I would dearly like to put a Bittorrent client on my freenas (as the Atom is on 24/7, and draws such small amounts of power). I see the latest 2 builds of Freenas include a Bittorrent client, but I also notice that you do not yet support anything above release 0.69. I know you are a busy person but please consider releasing a version of slimnas that would work with 0.68b2 or later.

    Regards and many thanks,
    Jeff

They're included with the SqueezeCenter you install. If you install a
recent SC on FreeNAS, you should be fine.

I will. It just won't happen too soon. I'd like to let FreeNAS _and_ our
own SC development settle down a bit. Newer FreeNAS builds will not only
require changes in the SlimNAS code, but new builds of all binary code too
(mplayer, lame, Perl etc. all needs to be compiled on FreeBSD 7). Plus
whatever I'll do to run SlimNAS on recent FreeNAS builds will break
earlier builds. And I don't want to maintain several branches at the same
    time. I simply can't.

Feature request : "FreeSpot" on SlimNAS?

    Scope:
    - for Spotify users with a Premium account
    - plays back 320k or 160k streams
    - requires a PC based server running Squeezebox server (linux, windows or mac)
    - will play back via Squeezebox 2 and later hardware players, SoftSqueeze and SqueezePlay
    - supports a single playback session at one time which may be synchronised across multiple players (i.e. does not support multiple differently playback sessions at one time - this is a Spotify limitation)
    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79706

This obviously does not work on SlimNAS, cause the "libspotify" is only available for Linux, not for FreeBSD.

There MIGHT be a solution to this with "libopenspotify"
    libopenspotify

libopenspotify aims to be a API compatible, cross-platform drop-in replacement for libspotify, free of licesing issues with its permissive 2-clause BSD license.
    http://despotify.se/ - http://github.com/noahwilliamsson/openspotify

I do not possess the know-how how to implement or test this - but it would make a fantastic piece of software (SlimNAS) even more fantastic it is possible to use Spotify via the SlimNAS

    Swap file

    Michael,

Just a quick note - I had the same problems as some others with the server not starting up & ive tied it down to the swap file not being enabled and large enough.

three of my problems related to this.

    thanks for all your work.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep that in my mind.

Perl version for SBS 7.6.x and SlimNAS?

    Hi!

I have trouble running SBS 7.6.X on my FreeNAS 0.7.1 with SlimNAS.

Could it be that the included Perl version (5.8.9), in slimnas-2.0.1.tgz is not the right one for SBS 7.6.X?

Will there be a new slimnas-2.0.X.tgz with Perl 5.10.1 for FreeNAS 0.7.X?

Pretty please (with sugar on top)...

    /Jonas...

It should work fine. Some had to remove the var sub folder from the slimnas installation and re-install SBS before it did though. I know that it runs fine, as I've used it to debug a different issue just last week.
