These remind me that Sonny Landreth should be included.

Damn, I've got a lot of listening to do. Thx for all the suggestions. Whilst quite a few are known to me there are equally as many I've not yet discovered.

You may or may not know, he's had an on-again/off-again collaborative project with Bernard Sumner of New Order as "Electronic". It's mostly, as the name implies, electronic music, but there are some good guitar tracks as well.

Their self-titled 1991 debut album is one of my all-time faves, despite a few bad tracks. Their later album, Raise the Pressure...not so much! I understand I'm missing an album, Twisted Tenderness.

    Favourite Guitarists

Oh boy, that could end up being a big list!

Some of my personal favourites, various styles:

Tony McPhee (from the Groundhogs). Many great tracks, but anything from Split or Thank Chris For The Bomb puts a tingle in my spline.
Mike Oldfield - Amarok, Moonlight Shadow (Five Miles Out).
Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - Dogs (from Animals), The Embryo (only performed live in the good old days).
Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream - yes, he does play a mean guitar as well as keyboards).
    Jimi Hendrix - Red House
Steve Hackett (Genesis) - Firth of Fifth
Guitarist from Barclay James Harvest (forgotten his name) - Poor Mans Moody Blues.
Jimmy Page (Led Zep) - just about anything
Jan Ackermann (Focus) - Focus III.
    Manuel Göttsching (Ashra/Ash Ra Tempel)
Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) - Dislocated Day (The Sky Moves Sideways)
Neil Young - both his acoustic and rock styles.
WishBone Ash - Warrior, and The King Will Come (both from Argus). Not really one person; it's the unique blend of layered guitars.

I've been told that I should also like Steve Hillage, but I haven't found any hooks there yet. Anyone care to recommend a good album/song to try?

    Phil

Yes. The live acoustic version of big love is special. Kind of like Mark Knopfler, like the end of Sultans Of Swing, Alchemy style.

Doyle Dykes, a one-time protege of Chet Atkins.
Really, it was like that when I got here.
