    Best gigs of 2006

Ok gig fan let's have em,

    Here's mine,

David Ford at the Cockpit Leeds - simply one of the best gigs I've ever seen and I've been to a lot.

Calexico at Manchester Acadamy - My first Calexico gig.

Flaming Lips at the Birmingham NIA - My first Lips gig and great fun.

Muse at Birmingham NEC - I saw Muse as a support band in 1999 and they were the worst support band ever. This gig confirmed their reputation as the best live band around.

I only saw two shows this year, in Lawrence, KS, but they were both great: Mastodon and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

Ah, the Cockpit in Leeds. Fond memories

Anyway, for me it was The Heritage Orchestra at the Big Chill festival without doubt.

The Blind Boys of Alabama at the Shedd Institute in Eugene, OR.

The Shedd used to be First Baptist Church, and was the perfect venue for them. Reasonable sized (seats a few hundred) hall, and, well, it looks like a 100 yr old Baptist Church...

Oh, it's been so long since I've gone to a concert, sniff. Still,
here's some favorites (all venues in San Francisco, CA):

Cake at the Great American Music Hall, right after Motorcade of
    Generosity came out.

Neil Finn at Bimbo's 365, on his Try Whistling This tour

    Mojo Nixon at Slim's

Billy Bragg, and Robyn Hitchcock's brilliant opening show, at the Orpheum.

    Hmm:

    Muse @ Sheffield Hallam Arena
    Tool/Mastodon @ Nottingham Arena
    Opeth @ Nottingham Rock City
Seeing Metallica play the whole of Master Of Puppets at Download

probably some others I don't remember too.

...and next year we have Incubus, NIN, Mastodon and Deftones.

    Only two really great ones:

Lizz Wright at Cosmopolite (Oslo, Norway)
Beth Hart at Jelling Music Festival (Denmark)

The Lizz Wright gig was absolutely magic.

Only saw two this year, and they were both good:

Leon Russell at Sunrise Theatre, Southern Pines, NC
Robert Cray at House of Blues, Myrtle Beach, SC
