How do I map a remote control button to bring up the date and time display on demand?

What I want to do is have the date/time display come up when I press-and-hold the button that adjusts text size on the SB3. What line(s) do I have to add to my custom.map file to make this happen?

Try the following:

size = dead
size.single = brightness_toggle
size.hold = datetime

Try the following:

size.single = brightness_toggle

thanks for your replay, but shouldn't it be

size.single = textsize_toggle?

Also I've put the cart before the horse here with my question. What I should have asked first is, how do you activate the custom.map file, in other words, how do you make the SB remote use the custom mapping instead of the default mapping?

You're right, of course. Too much copy/paste :-).

Go to to Player Settings (web interface)/Remote. There's a dropdown list
with key maps available.

... and the trick, which I for one keep forgetting, is that you have to create the custom.map (or fred.map or whatever) first - the menu will detect .map files and give you the option.

But in order to get it to do exactly what I wanted, I had to make this slight tweak:

# textsize modes

The principle Syntax of Custom.map is clear to my, but are the possibilities somewhere documented?

Thanks; using this as a guide I was able to map

brightness.hold = datetime

in

/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/IR/Default.map

so that holding brightness at any time diplays the clock.
