Hi. I tried following the thread about this issue in another thread but it got off on some kind of hardware failure tangent and was frankly, over my head.
I had this 6.5 version running just fine. Then I did an Ubuntu update. This messed up nvidia slightly, so I ran a script called 'envy' from Ubuntu that fixed my nvidia problem. Then, when I tried to restart slimserver, I got this:
damon@LinuxOne:~/apps/SlimServer_v6.5.0$ ./slimserver.pl

-----------
Ubuntu's package installer shows me as having an up-to-date version of perl, at least, up-to-date as far as Ubuntu is concerned.
Is there a simple path out of this mess? I've got a Squeezebox (1). My old server still has slimserver 6.2.1 installed on it, and I've got that running in the mean time.
Thanks,

Can I ask why you're not using the Ubuntu/Debian packages? That would be a
much more trouble-free option I would think.

?.conf
I don't recall what the issues were ...might have been a sound
card problem. How do I get slimserver working now? Do I revert
to an older version?

sorry, misread your question to me...
You asked why I wasn't using the ubuntu deb packages for slimserver. My reply is "What packages?" I went to the downloads page at slimdevices and got the scripts there. There are/were no deb packages there and I hadn't heard of them before you just asked.
Sorry for the non-sequitor reply.

Yes, I see they don't link at all to their .deb repository. It would save a
lot of frustration if they linked from the downloads page to here for
Debian/Ubuntu users:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?DebianPackage
I think you'll find that this technique is by far the simplest and most
elegant way to run SlimServer on Ubuntu.

installed deb, ran slimserver, still have error
Hi, ben. I added the repository, ran the update and installed slimserver. When I ran it, I got:
damon@LinuxOne:~$ slimserver
061107 20:41:37 [ERROR] Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Address already in use
061107 20:41:37 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 9092 ?
061107 20:41:37 [ERROR] Aborting
061107 20:41:37 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown complete
But I looked and I have no mysqld processes running.
What's up? Anyone have a suggestion here?

You shouldn't have to even run it -- simply installing it should start it
right up. Are you sure it's not already running?

?.conf
Hi, Ben. Um, er. well, yes. When I start up a web browser and point it at the slimserver it appears to be running. Thank you. That does explain the error message, doesn't it. :-)
But slimserver was not listed when I ran the system monitor. When I had that error message I looked for it (and mysqld) there.
How do I start and stop the slimserver?

sudo /etc/init.d/slimserver start|stop|restart
Glad it's up and running for you!

thank you
Thanks, Ben. I've now learned about the slimserver deb repository and how to start and stop a service. I appreciate the help very much.
