Hi there.
I found this NAS http://edbpriser.dk/Products/Listprices.asp?ID=159498#
It's not possible to buy a QNAP here in Denmark, so will this work?
If it will, how do I install slimserver on it?
Do you know how big a harddrive I can put into it?
Thanks
Flim from Denmark

See Compatibility & Estimated Performance Chart at http://oinkzwurgl.org/ssods/
And consider to use the search facility of this board with the keywords "synology", "diskstation", "ssods", "ds-101j", ...
flipCheck out flipflip's Squeezebox Server On (some) DiskStation (SSODS) and on (some) TurboStations (SSOTS) and some other devices! Please do NOT file SSODS bugs in (SD's) bugzilla. Use the forums. And only the forums. Thanks.

Hi again.
Well - as I see it there's 2 options.
1.
I can buy the 101j and install slimserver ver 6.2 or 6.3 on it
2.
I can buy the more expensive 106 and install ver 6.5
If 101j fine I would rather buy that. Is there a big difference between 6.3 and 6.5?
It's almost $100 in difference between 101j and 106 so if 101j works I'll buy that.
The 406 is out of the question. It's way to expensive.
So what would you recommend between 101j and 106?
Thanks again

Minor point.
If you plan to use
* transcoding
* AlienBBC (RealAudio)
* WMA streams on SoftSqueeze
then go for DS106.

I was planning to rip my cd's to FLAC and play the from the NAS.
Transcoding don't I know what is, and I'm not gonna listen to WMA-files or listen to AlienBBC.
So you would recommend the 101j and slimserver 6.2 og 6.3??
Sorry for these questions - but I'm not sure what to buy. The only thing I actually want, is to play music from a harddrive when my pc is off.
Is the 101j good enough to do that?

What is the cost difference between a 101 and a 106?
I'd be inclined to go with the more powerful version. ss 6.2 or 6.3 might be fine for you just now, but in the future there may be a killer feature you want from 6.x or 7.x and the 101 isn't able to handle it. Would be different if i already had a 101, it would be hard to justify buying a second unit right now, but as you have nothing atm, to me this would make more sense.

Here are the prices in US-Dollars: (the few Synology avalible in Denmark)
CS-406 : $760
DS-106 : $320
DS-106e: $250
DS-106j: $220
DS-101j: $185
I guess the fight stands between the 106 and 101j.
If someone in between is good enough I'll buy that.
But you're probably right about the future. Maybe I have to buy a new one in a year or two if I buy the 101j now.
Now that you have seen the prices - would you still recommend the DS-106?
Thanks

Well - I think I has come to a conclusion.
I'm buying the 101j and installing Slimserver 6.3.
I think the 106 is to expensive for me right now. I also need a harddrive (can you recommend anyone)??
Maybe in 2 years or so, I will buy another NAS, but right now I can't afford a 106 og 406.
So please - the last thing - I need to know which harddrive I should put into it.
Thanks

If you ever want to be able to do anything other than just Slim Serve then the extra bucks are worth it - you may even find that you can get a good deal on the HDD which saves pennies for the 106. Certainly as the SB3 and Transporter evolve the new features will not be supported
