Squeezeboxes don't auto reconnect when PCserver is restarted

I've noticed a few times now that when I reboot my PC and the slimserver service restarts, that the web UI reports no connected clients. When I have gone to my two squeezeboxes, I simply press the power button and they reconnect.

I am run 7.0 trunk via ActivePerl. This may have started when trunk was still 6.5 - I'm not sure.

Has anyone else noticed this? I've had issues with my broadband connection recently, which has meant a lot of messing around with TCP/IP configuration on my PC, and changing settings/rebooting my rooter several times. It's not impossible that something in my network setup is causing it.

I haven't noticed a reconnection problem when I shut down the service, update SVN, and restart the service. Perhaps it's something to do with the service starting when the machine starts up (some other dependency not ready - although I have a service dependency on MySQL, as I use an external instance).

Just tried this again to check it was repeatable. It was, but I was slightly incorrect about how I get the squeezeboxes to reconnect.

After rebooting my PC, the squeezebox display remains blank.
If I press power once, the squeezebox display reports that it is attempting to connect. But it doesn't and the screen blanks again.
If I press the power button twice in quick succession, it connects.

I'm still experiencing this problem. Whenever I stop and restart slimserver, my Squeezeboxes remain on a blank screen. I have to press the power button twice quickly for the squeezeboxes to reconnect.

Yes, I used to see this a lot, but it went away in the betas a couple weeks before 6.5 was released. Similar setup - two SB2s, with SlimServer running on Windows XP Pro using ActiveState Perl. I have no idea what made the problem go away. What I noticed was that it was always either both Squeezeboxes would reconnect, or neither would, so it seemed to be an issue at the server.

In my case restarting the SlimServer (which I run as a service) would get the boxes to reconnect. Sometimes it took two, three or more tries. I was never able to get the boxes to connect using the remote, even though I tried going back through network setup and a few other things. I don't think I ever tried the Power button.

This just happened to me for the first time last night using 6.5.1 10007 Windows XP EN cp1252. Using the power button the display would light up for a few seconds and then go dark. Restarting Slimserver finally got things going again.

I get a similar effect with SoftSqueeze too, so it's not something specifically wrong with my wireless network or router.

Yes, the same happened with Softsqueeze when I was having the problem. It too refused to connect. If you look through the bug report at comment #4, one odd thing was that when the Squeezeboxes didn't connect, the Softsqueeze client never appeared in the logs.

If restarting SlimServer is a workaround for you (even if only on 1/10th of the tries) then I think there's a good chance that you're experiencing the same problem. It might be good to note the Windows operating system and the ActiveState Perl version that you're using.

Thanks - I've read through that, and it does sound very similar. I've added my experiences.

Thanks for reopening this bug. I hope this gets fixed soon as it happened to me for the second time last night. On both occasions it took twenty minutes or so before the player would "lock on" to slimserver. Once the connection "stabilized" (for lack of a better term) the player worked flawlessly but it's a hassle attemting to connect, shutting off the player, shutting down slimserver, starting it up again, etc. in order to obtain a connection.

Has anyone made any progress with this problem? I'm finding that my Squeezeboxes never reconnect (softsqueeze is okay).

I have tried going back to 6.5.1. I'm wondering about going back to an older SVN version to try to determine what change may have caused the issue. Does anyone else suffering this reconnect issue remember roughly when the problem started to occur for them?
