    Using squeezebox with Buffalo linkstation

    Hi,

I am seriously considering buying a Squeezebox to use with my buffalo linkstation, but have been having a few problems:-

    1) I have been reading the forums on how to install 3rd party firmware on the NAS (e.g. http://fieldnetworks.com/slim/linkstation.html), but I cannot find a way of getting past the first step (telnet access) as the linkstation wiki site seems to be gone (I am running firmware version 2.05 on my linkstation).

    2) My linkstation has Pcast linktheater installed. I'm assuming that this can only be used with the Buffalo linktheater and not the squeezebox.

    3) I'm a complete newbie to this. Would I be better off buying a NAS with slimserver already installed? I don't mind messing around with mine, but its kind of frustrating that I can't seem to even get past the first step at the moment..

    Thanks in advance

The LinkStation Wiki site is at http://www.linkstationwiki.net/. They lost (or never had) .com.

I'm pretty sure you can get to Telnet shell on almost any LinkStation so you should be able to figure out how on the Wiki. Worst case you reflash (of course you might lose data then.)

Check out the wiki and see what you can do. I have a Kuro Box and it's a pretty good solution.

That's correct. Currently, Pcast is only to support Buffalo's LinkTheater product.

As the owner of a LinkTheater, I can say that the Pcast/LinkTheater combo is a total piece of crap for use as a network music server/player. Squeezebox plus SlimServer on the LinkStation blows it away.

Agreed. I use my LinkTheater for video and photo only. The SB is head and shoulders above it for music.
