Why is it that Slimserver is so hard at doing it's own job?????? I'm no expert in this but, did pay good money to have a product do what it was designed and quoted at doing, stream f***** music. I've never got this thing to work properly. I do all the usual things suggested by all the helpful users here but, it's just too hard.
I've recently upgraded to v6.5 because I was having trouble with 6.3.1 but, what a mistake. Now my playlists are not being recognised.
Does anyone know of any other free streaming server software that will work with SD?
Thanks
Indy

You've made two posts on the forum, both complaining about things not working but neither giving any actual useful details of the problems you're facing. If you want people to help, you're gonna have to give us a chance. That, or call SD support and have them help you out.

Pretty damn easy to setup, didn't need to read any instructions. It's straight forward really- connect SB to your router and switch on, install software and tell it where your music is, connect to DHCP, point the SB to your host PC. Build database. Then use remote control.

As radish suggested you should contact SlimDevices support people directly, they will do everything they can to help you out. You did after all "pay good money" for their direct support as well as for the hardware. This is a community forum, and although the guys a SD do read the boards and contribute, they are not the primary means of support.

Thanks guys for trying to help. I realise that my post may have been a little to direct but, I'm annoyed that the system just doesn't do it's job. The built in web interface that I use to access the various controls and settings is basic (which is a good thing) so there very little that one can do wrong. When one exhausts all avenues and still has no success, then it can make one somewhat....lets just say fustrated. It's been 2 weeks and I've not made any progress. As I mentioned, I've looked through these forums and tried pretty much all suggestions made by others to no avail. Is there an official SD email contact that I can write to regarding my problem?
[radish] - The reason I've only made 2 posts (including this one) is because on both occassions the problem has been the same - no music!! My first was one I was new to the whole system, so fair enough. But now having had it for ~8 months and having got farmiliar with the system you'd think it would be quite easy to resolve a basic problem like what I have now.
Thanks

Instead of explaining your point of view and venting your frustration you might want to post the details of your problem including the following information:
-Slimserver version
-OS
-network layout
-firewall settings
-Squeezebox version
-wireless settings
-use of iTunes
-music library location
-playlist folder
-solutions you have tried so far
You've looked through all the forums and tried all suggested solutions but you cannot find the support page? One wonders...
You can find SD support information on this page:
http://www.slimdevices.com/su_tech.html
You may want to look through the faq first (on same page).

slimserver with itunes
Indy,
as a fellow newbie I would suggest that you move forward in steps.
Use the slimserver to access directly the repository of your music rather that the itunes method. It works really well.
If the slimserver and the music is on one machine just go to server settings and put the source of music in the "music folder" field. If the music isn not stored on the same machine as that running slimserver or the music is scattered about your machine then I would suggest creating a seperate folder that has a backup of your music files. This backup would be quite safe from damage, anfd would solve all your itunes problems.
Experts on the Forum may wish to disagree with these views as I am far from being an expert, but hey that's the way of the world. Any comments would be appreciated!

Hey mudlark....
Thanks for the suggestion, might consider it. Only main problem is that you can't have playlists, which means that in order to mimick this, I'll have to make duplicates of my files. Do you have any ways around this?
