I have a new Buffalo Linkstation HD-H160LAN with firmware 2.05 and am a bit confused as to which modified firmware I need to get telnet and perl etc, in order to install Slimserver? Also, do I use Freelink or Openlink? I am not sure of the difference.
Thanks

Correct Firmware for LS HD-

The new HD-H series have MIPS processors, as opposed to the PowerPC processors in the original and the HD-HG LS models. I'm pretty sure you want mipsel-openlink-0.52b.
Re OpenLink vs. FreeLink: OpenLink is the more modest firmware hack. It preserves the web browser-based management of the stock firmware, but gives you telnet, ssh, and root access. FreeLink is more of a complete break with the stock firmware, in that you lose the native browser manager and have to re-install basic packages like Samba. On the plus side, FreeLink gives more flexibility for installing packages. I ended up doing it in stages, starting with Open Link and then installing FreeLink.
