When I browse Artists / <artist> in the web UI, I get the following sort orders to choose from:

Album
Year, Album
Year, Artist, Album
Artist, Album
Artist, Year, Album
Genre, Album
Genre, Artist, Album

I believe any of those options with "Artist" in the sort order are redundant when browsing an artist, as there will only be one artist to sort! Could these be removed when not applicable? The sort order modes that are applicable when browsing an artist are:

Album [Default]
Year, Album
Genre, Album

which is a bit easier to select from.

I don't really see a lot of point with "Genre, Album" when browsing a single artist either. Most albums by a single artist will have their albums in one genre?

Also, how does genre sorting work if there are more than one genre tag for songs on an album? Eg. If I were to find a various artist album with lots of songs tagged with different genres, would the album be sorted:
1. under the first detected genre
2. multiple times, under each genre
3. at the top/bottom of the list using some nominal "[multiple genres]" sort string

When ordering by genre, it may be useful to show the genres as sub-headings in the list of albums.

I still think that optional heirarchy view modes would be more useful than sort-by order options. eg, in the example above, browse to artists / various artists. Select "view by genre" and the list of various artist albums changes to a list of genres used by various artists. Select a genre then lists only various artist albums that include that genre. The Custom Browse plugin almost gets there, in that it's possible to configure different heirarchies, but there's no web UI yet, and it's not possible to change display mode on the fly. Are new heirarchies something we could perhaps expect to see in future releases?
