Yeah, but a waste of a lot of good electronics. A gumstix and display might cost less.
OTOH, 2 SB3s side by side could deliver 4 channel sound :-)

True, i do agree with you, but i would like the matching cases and identical VFDs

as for the using the GumStix for driving a display, this could work in my kitchen...

Re: Who makes decent sized static ram thesedays?
Er, the Gumstix use DRAM, not SRAM.... looks like the 400xm has 64 MB
RAM and 16 MB Flash, which would almost definitely be enough for a
stripped-down SlimServer (or SB/display emulator).

Yes, I know that. I was thinking of building a swap space for it.
Really? Did they upgrade it? I thought it was 32MB and 8MB Flash.looks like the 400xm has 64 MB
RAM and 16 MB Flash, which would almost definitely be enough for a
stripped-down SlimServer (or SB/display emulator).

Exactly. I would have thought there would be a market for such a thing, but so far, haven't found one.

Apparently there is a new Gumstix computer out there
http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/23/g...mini-computer/
"packing a 400MHz Intel XScale PXA255 processor, with 64MB RAM, 16MB Flash, built-in 10/100baseT networking, and a CompactFlash Type II card slot for additional storage"
Memory could be higher for SS 6.5, but the 400MHz XScale is pretty good.
EDIT: also, by reading the comments on Engadget, it appears they will be adding USB in the new year. You ca also use a CompactFlash to IDE converter to get large disks running on the device. cool

Yeah, I think it's well worth watching them as they grow the memory sizes and capacities of this line. Assuming they can grow the hardware faster than slim can grow the server, they might catch up soon. :-)
