I have Slimserver 6.3.1 running with 2 Squeezeboxes (FW 55) on a Windows XP System (3 GB RAM, Pentium D 830).
Since a couple of weeks I have the problem that between tracks ther is a 20-60 sec.(!) pause. The display of the Squeezebox freezes at approx. 12 to 10 Sec. before the end of the track. The track finishes and then.... waiting. During this the Slimserver console says "Waiting for localhost".
I have a library of 10'100 songs.
Even reinstalling Slimserver doesn't fix the issue.
Does anybody have a clue what is happening ?

What format are the songs in? One possibility is that they are in a format which the SB can't handle natively, in which case they are transcoded at the server first... now that alone would not explain your huge delay, as it looks like you have a plenty powerful server, but if there were something wrong with the transcoder...
For example, if you are listening to AAC files, you might want to check out your installation of Quicktime.

Hi Ceejay,
95% of the library are MP3 (128-320kbps) and the rest are m4a (AAC). The delay happens with either format.
If I skip to the next song in the playlist, there is almost no (1 sec. maybe) delay! The next song just starts....

AFAIK, MP3 files are never transcoded so it must be something else.
Is there something unusual about the location of your music files? Any shortcuts in the paths, or are they all under a single directory on a local disc?

All the files are in 1 drive (with sub-dirs) on a local internal drive.
I was wondering if there is something about the slimserver process itself. Is there a way to see a log or the status of the server ?

I finally found it. I had the iTunes Update Plugin running. So approx. 10 Sec. before the end of the track the plugin was updating the iTunes library. Now, having de-activated the plugin, everything works fine again.
Thank you ceejay for your thoughts anyway!
