Windows Media Encoder talking to SB3

I trying to get a PC running Windows Media Encoder (encoding a line-in input) to have its stream read and played by an SB3.

I've set up the server with an MU3 file that points to the URL resource that describes the audio input. But the SB3 always say "PROBLEM: CAN'T CONNECT TO SERVER FOR" when I select the playlist that points to the resource.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

    Tahnks! John

Has an answer for this ever been discovered? I would like to use WME to re-stream a stupid online Flash stream to my Squeezebox, but it of course doesn't work. I've looked at the Icecast junk but it's a pain in the rear to setup and make work it seems and the documentation is terrible.

If Squeezebox can supposedly play Windows Media, why can't it talk to the output of the Windows Media Encoder?

I got WME to work with SB with no problems first time and it played everything (Pandora, CDs, DVDs) through Slimserver direct to SB and Softsqueeze but with about an 8 sec delay.

    1. Download & Install windows media encoder
    2. Choose the Broadcast a Live Event wizard (whatever is playing on your computer)
    3. Hit Ok.
    4. Hit Next on Device Options screen. (defaults to your sound card)
    5. Choose "Pull from Encoder" on Broadcast Method screen and hit Next.
    6. Choose the Port and note the URL listed on Broadcast Connection Screen and hit Next.

    example: Port defaults to 8080
    URL default: http://computername:8080/

Note: If 8080 is in use, you can hit "Find Free port" to have the computer select another port.

    7. Chose Audio format and bitrate on Encoding Options screen and hit Next.

You can skip archive screen, and then fill out the Display Information screen. This is the name that will show up on your soundbridge.

    B. Start Playing content on your computer.

    C. Save the URL from step 6 and enter into "Tune in" on SLimserver, and start playing.

If the SB fails to connect, you might need to make the following changes to the URL:

    mms://computername:8080/
    mms://computersIPaddress:8080/, for example: mms://192.168.1.45:8080/

If there is no Audio - Under properties for the audio source
    A. Try select "stereo mix" under Pin Line
    B. Change the source from default to a specific sound card.

Help when diagnosing no audio - make sure something is playing on speakers (e.g. tune internet radio stations on browser):
    A. If the Level meters jump up & down when playing then the problem lies in the URL, port no and SB
    B. If the Level meters don't move - then problemnis audio source - try different option under properties.

    It just doesn't work.

The encoder is running and encoding properly (I can point Windows Media Player on another computer at it and hear the stream).

When I enter the URL into the Tune-In on Slimserver, it usually just trashes the web browser. Slimserver will spit out small bits of the display in unformatted text, or it will dump raw perl source into the right frame of the browser... you have to hit refresh half a dozen times before it starts working again.

The Squeezebox never plays anything (it's an SB3 by the way - running 6.5.1) and sometimes it even trashes the display of the Squeezebox!

OK, I finally seem to have this working.

Initially I tried several times to use the mms:// URI but it didn't want to work. But after trying a bunch of other things and coming back to it, it suddenly started working.

However, something is wrong with SlimServer still - after I do a "Tune in URL", when the right-hand frame refreshes, I usually just see the playlist (no graphic header), and then "I'm alive!" If I close the browser and re-open a new session, sometimes I'll get right frame template with perl source puked in (picture attached). The left some will sometimes show odd things too. After hitting refresh a few times it will finally return to normal.
