    slim via Airport express?

I am planning on buying, but I have a couple of questions...

    1) If I go wireless via airport, will the music sound as good as if I go "wired"

    2) Is another wireless router better with the mac?

    3) does slim work with shn filesets? or will I need to transfer those to flac?

just trying to keep it losless and simple!

    Thanks

Yes, assuming you don't get dropouts due to a bad connection.

Routers don't care what kind of computer you have. If you've already got the airport and it works, then use it. If you're yet to buy a wireless hub then others are probably much better value than the Apple one. Your choice.

shn is Shorten right? I have entries in Slimserver prefs for Shorten so I guess it should work. It's not a format I hear much about around here - maybe someone else can confirm what the level of support is.

All I can add is that the shorten format is supported out of the box, but I recall a couple of years ago some discussion on the forum/mailing-list talking about the fact that the format is rather ill-defined so it's possible that there'll be some issues. The best way to find out is to go ahead and install the server and the squeezebox software emulator (softsqueeze); they're both free and will give you an idea of what the squeezebox is like.

    AP Express

Whether radish is right that another router would offer better value depends on which AP Express features you are using (or intend to use), aside from the question of whether you would find the AP easier to set up and more reliable. I'm very happy with the bang for the buck, which includes USB printing and easy portability (for road trips). More than adequate for a Slim network, that's for sure.

    Mac user since 1984.
