Just received my new Squeezebox. It's a beauty. However, I am having some problems getting it to connect.
1. What is the sequence to reset the squeezebox to factory settings?
2. What are the settings for the Firewall? I have added the 2 ports however, it wants either TCP or UDB. I selected TCP but don't know if that is correct.
3. The Squeezebox never connects. I have entered the IP address manually for the slimserver but still nothing
4. SlimServer itself keeps shutting down. It starts for a while and then I get Page Cannot Be Displayed and am required to restart SlimServer.
Any help is appreciated.

press and hold the ADD (+) button on the remote while the squeezebox
is powering up.

can you ping the squeezebox from your server pc?

look in the windows event viewer, in the application events. If the
server is dying, it should leave a message sayihng why it crashed.
Post that.

Ok...thanks. I have reset to the factory settings and that didn't fix anything.
I have already read the article you list below but it does not say whether the setting is TCP or UDP
Yes, I can ping the squeezebox from my computer
I looked in the Event Viewer, it states that Windows Defender was blocking Slim.exe. I couldn't find anyway in Windows Defender to allow Slim.exe so I removed Windows Defender. Slim Server still cannot find the Squeezebox

i have windows defender, and it doesn't block me, fyi.
i think u can use tcp or udp, or i assume so. in any case, tcp should absolutely work.
have you checked windows firewall to make sure it has an exception for slim?

That is what I am referring to regarding adding the ports and TCP or UDP. It's to the exception list in Windows Firewall

Ok, I added the ports as you have them listed which didn't do anything. However, I then added slim.exe to the program exception list and for a brief moment it connected to the squeezebox before the slimserver software shut down (page cannot be displayed). The event viewer shows the following twice.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 7/12/2006
Time: 1:10:18 PM
User: N/A
Computer: MAIN5XP
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Can't use string ("
") as an ARRAY ref while "strict refs" in use at C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\lib/UPnP/Common.pm line 282.

u misunderstand i think...
i'm not just listing ports, i'm listing slim.exe with those ports, do both.
"slimserver" is just how its displayed.
i think the SS runtime install routine did this for me automatically. are you using sp2?

Re: A couple questions
from the faq article:
# For 'TCP Port Number(s):' specify '3483, 9000'
# For 'UDP Port Number(s):' specify '3483'
