    Last track best track

Listening to Hard-Fi Stars of CCTV I was struck by the thought "what other album has it's best track (IMHO) as the last track"

Usually in my opinion the last tracks are fillers but in this case it certainly isn't true.

I have been racking my brain put I am Hard pushed to find another one with the exception maybe of Billie's album "Honey to the B" and the last track "don't forget to remember". However the use of the word best in this case is very relative.

Does anybody know of an album where they consider the last track to be the killer and not just a filler.

Its hard to pick a best track on these albums, but these certainly aren't fillers

How about Sgt. Pepper .. - A Day In The Life
or Revolver - Tomorrow Never Knows
or Let It Be - Get Back / Let It Be depending on the version
or Please Please Me - Twist And Shout

    I need to think more

    Cheers,

I could probably discuss this all day, as evidenced by my extensive list. Heck, I think it calls for a "Best Of Last Tracks" mix disc. Like Nikhil's choices (good job with the Beatles picks, BTW), these are not necessarily the best on the album, but certainly not filler, at least to me. I'm sure many will disagree.

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes [Little Earthquakes]
Tori Amos - 1000 Oceans [To Venus And Back]
Tori Amos - Gold Dust [Scarlet's Walk]
Bjork - All Is Full Of Love [Homogenic]
Bjork - New World [Selmasongs] (easily best on album)
      Boingo - Change [Boingo]
The Crystal Method - Bad Stone [Vegas]
      The Cure - Pornography [Pornography]
Howie Day - Disco [Australia] (if you include both parts)
Dead Can Dance - How Fortunate The Man With None [Into The Labyrinth]
Dead Can Dance - Devorzhum [Spiritchaser]
Dead Can Dance - Hymn For The Fallen [2005 Tour Finale]
Death Cab For Cutie - Debate Exposes Doubt [The Photo Album]
DJ Shadow - What Does Your Soul Look Like (Part 1) [Endtroducing]
Enigma - Back To The Rivers Of Belief [MCMXC aD]
The Fire Theft - Sinatra [The Fire Theft]
Frente - Bizarre Love Triangle [Marvin The Album] (I know that's cheating, but it's a great cover)
The Future Sound Of London - Snake Hips [ISDN]
The Future Sound Of London - Among Myselves [Lifeforms (Disc 1)]
Hooverphonic - Innervoice [A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular]
Hooverphonic - Blue Wonder Power Milk [Blue Wonder Power Milk]
Michael Hutchence - Slide Away [Michael Hutchence]
Interpol - Leif Erikson [Turn On The Bright Lights]
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida [In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida] (obviously best on album)
      Juno Reactor - Navras [Labyrinth]
Juno Reactor - Song For Ancestors [Shango]
Led Zeppelin - How Many More Times [Led Zeppelin 1]
Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks [Led Zeppelin 4]
Led Zeppelin - The Ocean [Houses Of The Holy]
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir [Physical Graffiti (Disc 1)]
      Live - Horse [Throwing Copper]
Matthew Good Band - Running For Home [Beautiful Midnight]
Loreena McKennitt - Dante's Prayer [The Book Of Secrets]
Moby - When It's Cold I'd Like To Die [Everything Is Wrong]
      Moby - My Weakness [Play]
Mogwai - Christmas Steps [Come On Die Young] (I don't count the actual last track as a song)
The Moody Blues - The Night, Nights In White Satin [Days Of Future Passed]
      Morrissey - Southpaw [Southpaw Grammar]
      Muggs - Far Away [Dust]
Peter Murphy - Roll Call [Deep] (if you include both parts)
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt [The Downward Spiral]
Nine Inch Nails - The Great Below [The Fragile (Left)]
Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs [With Teeth]
Nirvana - Something In The Way [Nevermind]
Nirvana - All Apologies [In Utero]
Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night [Unplugged In New York]
      Orbital - Midnight [Orbital 1]
Orbital - Halcyon + On + On [Orbital 2] ("Input Out" hardly counts as a song)
      Orbital - Attached [Snivilisation]
Orbital - Out There Somewhere (Part 2) [In Sides]
Orbital - One Perfect Sunrise [Blue Album]
      Pearl Jam - Indifference [Vs]

Jeez eq72521, you just about covered them all! :-)

I was going to mention Nirvana - Something in the Way from Nevermind but I see you have it.

        I could add one though:

The Presidents of the United States of America - Headin' Out from Freaked Out and Small. You know it's the last song on the album just hearing it. Kind of a melancholy "goodbye" song.
Boom (PQP3 - late beta, PQP1 - early beta), Squeezebox Radio (PB1 - early beta)

Yeah, those are the kinds of music questions I love. They make me evaluate my music collection in a different way and in the course of doing so I often find things I'd forgotten about. _Physical Graffiti_ in general is an example here. _Something In The Way_ would have been a rediscovery today except that it's been on my mind because I saw it used to such great effect in Sam Mendes' _Jarhead_ a few weeks ago. (Coincidentally, I gather that Sam is a Led Zeppelin fan, as he specifically mentioned _Physical Graffiti_ with regards to one of the ending scenes in _Road To Perdition_.)

I'm definitely going to distill that list down to a mix CD, maybe with a companion mix for best first tracks. _The Joshua Tree_ gets to be represented there again, and possibly _Empires_ for the obvious bookending (if you know the album), but I'll leave that list for another thread.

This is fun, although it's going to show the seedy underbelly of my music collection to a wider audience than I might otherwise like

Actually - Pet Shop Boys : Kings Cross is (IMHO) the best track on this classic album, and one of their best ever. I speak as a certified megafan
Introspective - Pet Shop Boys : It's Alright
Very - Pet Shop Boys : Go west ('nuff said)
Change or Die - Sunscreem : Be of Good Heart probably isn't the best on the album, but it's certainly not filler.
Looking at You - Sunscreem : This remix album concludes with the one of the best ever versions of one of their biggest ever hits, Perfect Motion. Needless to say, not filler
Deliverance - Baby D : Let Me Be Your Fantasy is pretty much the best track they ever did (which isn't saying that much, I realise).
Dirty Vegas - Dirty Vegas : The acoustic version of Days Go By is really excellent.
Morning SciFi - Hybrid : Blackout is a spine-tingling masterpiece. Unmissable.
Resist - Kosheen : The last track on this album is the one that made them famous, the Creamer & Stephane K mix of Hide U.
Elephunk - Black Eyed Peas : A bit of a cheat here, the best track is Let's Get Retarded - but the last track is the "radio friendly" renamed version Let's Get It Started.
Dummy - Portishead : Glory Box is a bit of a classic.
Experience - Prodigy : A lot of people consider Death of The Prodigy Dancers a classic.
Substance - New Order : The last track of disc 1 is True Faith. Best track on the album? One of the best of the century 1963 (the last track of disc 2) is pretty fine also.
Tiesto - Just Be : His version of Barber's Adagio for Strings may not be for everyone, but it's one of his recent standout tracks.
Tiesto - In My Memory : Suburban Train is the last track here and is one of my personal faves.

well, most of the ones i've thought of have already been suggested, the only exception is "Us" by Regina Spector on "Mary Anne meets the grave diggers and other stories".

                But i'll second the following:
Dummy - Portishead : Glory Box
                U2 - '40' [War]
Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out) [The Bends]

Just remembered, "Awkward Duet" by Sons And Doughters on their Love The Cup album.

                  Re: Last track best track

Quite a few Genesis albums have great last tracks.

                  The Knife [Tresspass]
                  Supper's Ready [Foxtrot]
Los Endos [A Trick of the Tail]

                  Also Pink Floyd albums:

                  Echoes [Meddle]
                  High Hopes [The Division Bell]

These are definately not fillers. Have been my favorites at one point or another.

Guns N' Roses - Rocket Queen (Appetite For Destruction)
Queensryche - Eyes of a Stranger (Operation: mindcrime)
                    PGAScores & CollegeHockey (SuperDateTime Add-ons)

                      IMHO

The Stone Roses - I Am The Ressurection (The Stone Roses)
The Orb - A Huge Ever Pulsating Brain.. (Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld )
Radiohead - Street Spirit (The Bends)

The Smiths should really have finished The Queen Is Dead with There Is A Light..

I can see you have thought about this before!! Portishead is a great example, this is clearly the best track on the ablum, I can't believe I didn't think of it myself.

The Clash - London Calling - Train in Vain (Track 19)

No Alternative (compilation album from 1993) - Nirvana - Verse Chorus Verse (Track 19 and not listed on the liner notes)

I also agree with Glory Box!
