Yup, that's what it looks like to me.

What you'll probably see is the user ID is filled in, probably "admin" or "D-Link". The password field will be blank. Just press enter.

Regarding their directions to change the IP address, provided you use WPA or WPA2 you won't ever have an intruder and this is unnecessary. Change your default router password for a little extra security, but changing the IP address shouldn't be required as long as you do those other things.

One thing to verify is that the network connection on your PC is set to obtain an IP address automatically from the router, rather than having one hard coded in. Something like:

Start => Control Panel => Network Connections => Local Area Connection => Properties => Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) - Properties => General => Obtain Automatically

In case it helps, here's my story.

Pre-SqueezeBox, I had been using a plain ol' Link-sys 4 port router plugged into my cable modem. When I bought the SB3, I knew I'd need to upgrade to a wireless router. I asked around here and ended up buying a Belkin Pre-N. The Belkin and the SqueezeBox connected pretty easily - I think I just stepped through instructions somewhere on the wiki? - and they play well with each other.

The problem I started seeing was that I was losing my internet connection repeatedly for longer and longer periods. Since my mother board has two ethernet connectors, I hauled out my old Linksys router again, and and plugged my cable modem into it. The connection problems went away - other than the Belkin occasionally trying to take over DNS serving - which I ought to be able to disable.

So effectively, I'm using the Belkin to drive the SqueezeBox without an internet connection.

Good point TimothyB, but sea-speak, I've omitted this on purpose because I sense you're not the type of person that's gone in and changed this setting. Your operating system is like this at default.

Certainly, it doesn't hurt to go check though.

Thanks guys!! I really appreciate the guidance. I will fiddle with the D-link device tonight and see what happens... should have the SB3 tomorrow. It would be great to have everything in place when it arrives.

    It worked!!

I was able to access the router's configuration pages through the 'cryptic address' just as Mark said. Once there I changed very little - I created a WPA password and set names for the network, LAN and wireless radio.

The SB3 was easy to set up. I had a bit of trouble when it was looking for a network - that's when I screwed around with my router, trying to give my network a name. After a few minutes I figured out I had to set the network name in 'wireless radio' mode (rather than LAN mode), and once I had done that everything was a breeze.

I connected the SB3 using its optical out. Once I had music playing I was puzzled because the volume was low. Then I figured out that the SB3 has volume-controlled digital outs (!). WTF!?!

Anyway, cranked the SB3 volume up to 40, and away I went. All is good now. Thanks everyone for your help! And so much for D-link tech support!

    best,

    Brandt

Glad to hear its working for you. If you don't like the idea of having the volume control affect the digital out, there is of course an option to stop this! From the web interface, go to Player Settings / Audio/ Digital Volume Control ...

Good luck with the new toy!

    Excellent!

BTW what ceejay was getting at was that you can set the digital volume to fixed.
