    Crashing SLIMP3

I've just bought a second hand SLIMP3 player.

Nice machine, but mine doesn't work like it should. It finds te server, but when i press "play" it hangs. The menu freezes and i cannot ping the player anymore.

    It tried many different setups:

    - ss (winxp) 4.2.4 on laptop via linksys router and WiFI
    - ss (winxp) 6.2 on laptop via linksys router and WiFI
    - ss (winxp) 6.2 on desktop via linksys router and ethernet
    - ss (debian on VMware/win32) 4.2 on desktop via linksys router and ethernet
    - ss (debian on VMware/win32) 6.2 on desktop via linksys router and ethernet
    - ss (winxp) 6.2 on desktop via crossover cable
    - ss (debian on VMware/win32) 4.2 on desktop crossover cable
    - ss (debian on VMware/win32) 6.2 on desktop crossover cable

I've also upgraded the firmware from v2.2 to v2.3. I tried both automatic and manual configs. The player can find the server without any problems (and has for a moment even played some music!) but it's unstable as hell!

Does this sound familiar to someone ? Any help is appreciated.

the slimp3 has a very small buffer, but I'd still expect all these to
work. In the 6.x versions, has the server finished building its library? I
don't recall if 4.x had to chew on it for a while or not...

    Yep.

I kept the library very small. Just for testing purposes.

Could be a flaky player. My Slimp3 works fine using 6.22. I ran it for a long time using 5.4.1, which was a nice, stable release.

    Checked your firewall?

    Blocking port 1069/UDP?

I'm afraid it's a flaky player. I'm running no firewall locally. I was using this forum as a last resort. Mayb someone has had the same probs.. Apperently not.

I'll check the player on hardware level: Noise on powersupply. Cold joints on the PCB. Bad connection on uC socket.
Mayb a faulty uC. Does anybody know the if "real" sourcecode (or binary) for the PIC uController have been made available?? (So i can flash a new controller)

    Thanx for your responses.

The source is in Subversion, see
    http://svn.slimdevices.com/trunk/slimp3/firmware/ . Note the license
restrictions (it's not GPL). You can recompile it with gpasm if you
    really want to.

    Crashing SLIMP3

    Thanks for your responses!

I've solved the problem. I resoldered the PCB en sanded the pins of the PIC uC. I think oxidation on the uC pins was the cause of the trouble.

So anyone with weird problems with a SLIMP3 pointing to defective HW this is something to check!

Hi, I'm having similar problems with my slimp3, (instability, connection to slim 6.5 occasional, sometimes long enough to play a bar of music.

    Any advice appreciated,

I've pinged the player with 256bytes drops a few, replies in 1 or 2ms for a few then drops 3or so packets again.

Which pins did you clean / resolder? maybe its the same fault?

    thanks.

    W.

I resoldered all the non-SMD pins (mainly connectors/vfd interface) and i sanded the four sides of the uPC (first remove the square IC from its PLCC socket off course)

I think the sanding caused my device to work again, but i can't really tell because i did the soldering and sanding in one go.

    greetz and succes!
