    DTS or AC3

So I think we have estblished that you want surround sound....but of course SB1 2 and 3 all have stereo outs only in analogue. So using SB as the final link in the chain is out. You could us the SB/slimserver to stream encoded DTS or AC3 (theres already some threads on this) and then use the digital out to a digital amp. However you have still got a problem because as I previously said whilst you may be able to rip the audio from DVD (and some surround CDs) into DTS - SACD is not in this format. So you would have to extract the 5.1 using an SACD player's analogue out and using some fancy DVD encoding software re-encode it yourself into DTS. It would be a nightmare!

I think we can safely say that for the current time streaming surround from SACD is not going to happen on the current generation of squeezeboxes!

That's exactly what I was hoping to do. Doesn't sound that difficult to me.
The latest version of Nero does encoding to DD 5.1 (I think, one of the 5.1
formats anyway) so it shouldn't be too hard...

It's only difficult because Sony wants it to be, just like streaming drm'd itunes files.
