Tivo vs. Squeezebox - Sound Quality

I have a TiVo and are streaming my mp3s through their home media option (using mostly mixes generated by MusicMagic). The TiVo sound is directly connected to my receiver (analog, with those yellow/red (RCA?) cables).

The sound quality is ok, but I am thinking of getting a Squeezebox. I was wondering if the SqueezeBox would give a better sound quality? Does any one have a TiVo as well and cares to compare the sound...

    THanks,

I have an old SliMP3 (only analog), and I find the TiVo sounds muddy in
comparison. I imagine the squeezebox, using the digital out, would
definitely sound better than the TiVo if the SliMP3 does.

Thanks Derek. Sounds good! Unfortunately my receiver doesn't have a digital input. But I guess that the SB has a better digital to analog converter? Or am I just becoming a wishful thinker and really want to get that Squeezebox! :-) I am just not sure if it is worth $300 if the sound quality isn't much different from what I get with my TiVo.

One other thing to make note of - the SqueezeBox is great for making
playlists "on the go" - having a running playlist which can be added to is
a feature the TiVo doesn't have.

Usually if I' want to play an album really quickly, say while making
dinner, I'll use the TiVo. But when I have company over, I use the
SqueezeBox and set up a playlist according to the atmosphere.

    Regards,
    Derek

I have stopped using my Tivo to play MP3s now that I have a Squeezebox. The Squeezebox sounds better than the Tivo, but an even more important difference is in the interface. It's a real pain drilling down through Tivo's screens to get to the music I want to hear. And, as Derek said, being able to create playlists on the fly is another difference. It's easy to queue up several albums to play one after the other. With the Tivo you'd have to go to the computer to create a playlist. I never have to go to the computer to use my Squeezebox.

With the Squeezebox, after a few quick button presses on the remote I'm all set. I'm getting another Squeezebox to use in the room where I have the Tivo. Between the Squeezebox and the Comcast DVR, my Tivos don't get much use any more (in fact, I disconnected one of them last week).

I second everyone else's posts. I used to use a Series 2 Tivo w/HMO to play MP3's. The sound quality via my SB2 is considerably better.

The SB's internal DAC is far superior to most you'll find on the market in typical consumer devices.

Just get it already! You'll love it and never look back.

Great! Thanks for all the replies.

I am using MusicMagic all the time with my TiVo. How does that work with the SB, since the screen is only a few lines... Or do you have to control it from your pc? Anyone using MusicMagic ( http://predixis.com ), with SB?

    Thanks!

MM works really well with the SB. Once you've enabled it from the
server, then you can press and hold play on any mixable song to get an
instant mix. Otherwise, you can generate mixes from the web ui (you set
default length, variety, artist style, etc values in the server), or
directly in MM and send them to the Slimserver.
