Problem Can't Find a Wireless Network

    Win XP SP2
    Slimserver 6.1.1
    BT Voyager 2110 Router 802 11g
    Original Squeezbox

I've narrowed the problem down to WEP. (I can connect to my home network with WEP disabled). On my previous network I also had to run with WEP Disabled. I am confident that all entries in setup are correct, and have opened the correct ports on Window's firewall, all to no avail

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong? Simple explanations please, don't be afraid to sound as if you are talking to an idiot.

Make sure you're using Shared-key WEP, not Open. If you don't see such an option, it is possible that your AP only supports Open (the more secure). If this is the case, you won't be able to use WEP with that AP.

    Review the FAQ at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_faq.html.

I have a similar problem, but I'm not connecting even with WEP disabled. Anyway, just to be sure I'm trying to change WEP to shared. I can do this on my devices and they still work, but I can't specify OPEN with my Router (I have no separate AP). Is it possible the Router determines SHARED or OPEN itself?

    Cheers

If you are not using WEP, shared/open is not used. Shared and Open are choices for how the WEP key is handled.

Your "appliance" is an access point, router, and probably firewall all in one. If you have no place to specify Open vs. Shared on the appliance, it likely only supports one. Check your manual or documentation. Review the FAQ

Sorry... I obviously explained that poorly.
I am having trouble connecting whether I have WEP enabled or disabled.

With WEP enabled, I cannot see anywhere in my router's setup to specify open or shared. However, I can set my other devices to open or shared and they will still connect. So I assume the router supports both, simulataneously, as my laptop can be set to open whilst my desktop is shared. Anyway, this aside, the SB2 still won't connect without a cable trailing across my living room floor.

I have now managed to access my music wirelessly. All I need to do is get the SB2 to see my router directly without the ethernet connection.

I have opened the ports on the router, I think. I have to enable trigger ports and public ports, so I put the same entry in both (3483 TCP, for example). Still nothing

Re: Problem Can't Find a Wireless Network

    I think there's a little confusion here.

Some routers allow you to switch between Open and Shared Key WEP.
    Some don't, like Airport.

Squeezebox2, unlike Squeezebox1, can access both Open and Shared Key
WEP, so this isn't your issue.

However, the quality and compatibility of access points is often
spotty. Squeezebox2 does pretty well, but there may be
    incompatibilities that we haven't discovered.

If you are still stuck, get in touch with support (AT) slimdevices (DOT) com and
they'll help you track down the issue. When you get it working,
    please post here.

    Thanks,

    dean
