Patrick, I think this was the error I saw. I have attached my modified file.

My file was for CVS 1.74 - your patch was for 1.73.

The Mplayer developers seem to make lots of small changes - the only change was they moved resync_audio from one file to another.

Oops my mistake, I had missed 1.74 (I'm not sure why I saw an error - I was probably too impatient). I don't think it makes any difference to the release, so I won't revise the download (unless you think otherwise).

OK, looks like I need to get 1.74 then (I must have used an older version) - thanks for the help.

Just a short note to say this patch has stood up to all tests I have thrown at it over the last 2-3 weeks. I mainly tested using Radio 2, Radio 4, BBC 7 and Virgin with a few other local radio stations (Ulster and Oxford mainly), plus some regression testing of archived streams. Tested using Slimp3, Squeezebox2 and Softsqueeze 2.0b09 & 2.0b10

    Other test environment versions are:-
    Redhat 8 (i386) server
    Slimserver 6.2b1 4627
    mPlayer dev-CVS-051016-01:47-3.2 compiled with patch.
Network - mixed mode wireless in infrastructure mode, with both hardware clients running on 802.11b and limited to 192kb/s
Softsqueeze client running over 802.11g and limited to 320kb/s
    BBC Streams converted to mp3.

    Thanks again.

I'm still getting garble. In fact it seems to kick in sooner than before.

Could you double check that you are using the latest version (MPlayer dev-CVS-051107-16:13-3.4.2). If you are, could you try running mplayer from the command line and see if you get the same results:
mplayer -vc null -vo null -cache 128 -af volume=4:sc,resample=44100:0:1 -playlist http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/realplayer/media/fmg2.rpm
