    more wood cases

So with the wood case other posts earlier in the week, I thought I would post some pics of my dedicated touchscreen softsqueeze boxes in Brazilian Mahogany cases. I had been holding off to take better pics, but when does one ever have time for that?

    Basic rundown:

    - Custom Mahogany cases done by David Mosby of Freightline Cases (contact info available upon request) David did a GREAT job, was very excited about my project, and in the end I paid him more than I owed him b/c I was so satisfied.

    - TC-10 Touchpanel computer from earthlcd.com Very happy with this aside from the sound chip quality. It does not have line out, so I am using speaker to line level converters from a car audio store. Even this setup is pretty noisy at low volume.

    - I have added a soundcard w/ digitial out on one box that is hooked to my good stereo setup. Sounds MUCH better than the stock. At some point I will get that working with an ART DI/O that I bought.

    - Boots from CF, and runs damnsmall linux. It took a couple of months for me to get it all working. I needed to compile a custom kernel for the touchscreen, and use a Kdive X binary from the driver author.

    - Boots, runs a modified slimp3slave, starts X, ssh's to my Linux server and runs softsqueeze with X displayback. This setup was required as the Geode CPU could not quite keep up with Softsqueeze and 320Mp3 playback. The combo works great. Slimp3slave was modified to allow uniq MAC addresses, so I can have four of these boxes on my network.

    - Running a custom woodgrain touchscreen skin that I did, that has been included with later betas of Softsqueeze.

Overall it was a fun project, and it is nice to have music all over the house now. Some pics are attached.

    Pb with TC-10

    Hello

    Good work!!

I have TC-10 and the boot don't work!!

1)I preload win XP on 80 Go DD IDE with the interface provided. When I power-on message : "sytem not found" appear. Which is the direction of the connector HE ? Do you have other more explicit documentations?
    >
    2) I preload linux sytem boot on compact flash and the same problem

    How access to the Bios?

Sure I had the same problem. You are correct in suspecting the boot
order, it is the problem. By default it boots off of the 32M
DiskOnChip. I believe it is just F2 to access the bios, else it is one
of the standards (del, f1, alt+f1).

If you do go with Linux I could probably save you some time as many of
the things needed to get it fully working with X and the touchscreen
are not documented. The touchscreen driver is not available in the
main kernel trees, I had to compile it from source from a mailing list
post of the patch. I can no longer find that post, so I would have to
get you a copy of the touchscreen driver. It is a DMC TSC-10

Here is an Xvesa binary that will work with the patch:
    http://www-dt.e-technik.uni-dortmund.de/~mvo/Xvesa.gz

If you have a 512M+ CF card, and some place on the net where I can
dump a 512M file, I can put up a fully working damnsmall linux CF
    image.

Unless you need some feature of XP, I would go with an older windows
if you want windows. These are not fast machines, 95, 98 or XPe would
be better choices. Essentially consider them to run like a PII 333.

I'll take a picture of mine when I get home, again I had the same
problem, and marked mine with a sharpie when I figured it out.

    Interested in the CF file

    Hi

I've been able to access the BIOS using F2 and change the boot sequence, after fiddling with it a little bit. Thanks for that.

Now, I would be really interested in the image of your customized compact flash including the modificiations to support the touch screen. For this purpose, I've setup an account of my FTP server for you to upload the image to. The host address is "sirea-snb.info". The login is "test" and the password is "test" too.

Again, thanks a lot for your valuable help.

I have the image ready, but the login you provided does not seem to work.

    Thanks,

I'd assume that was PM, as in private message on the forum web pages.
