Lazy me, I've been ripping my CD's using EAC without cleaning them. So far I have gotten "no errors", "copy OK" and track "quality" readings ranging from 97.7%-100%. Would I do better by cleaning them?

How to get the very best rips?

First question: are you really, really sure you're ripping in EAC secure mode?
If you are, and you're not seeing any problems, then there's no need to clean them. If your CDs are in good condition you shouldn't see any problems, but if they've been left out of their cases, or kicking around a car, you may never get a clean rip from them - even after cleaning.

Yes,
I followed 2 tutorials describing how to configure EAC. I'm definitely in secure mode. In fact I noted that both busrt and fast modes weren't checked and initially wondered why.

No, but the rip speed may increase after cleaning. If eac reports no errors, then you won't be able to "improve" the quality of the rip at all - it's already perfect. I generally only clean my cds if I notice that a particular in-progress rip is having problems.
