Dac = ?

I see in the Audiophile area discussions about DAC's. What is a DAC? Is there an area where we can find out what all of this means?

A DAC is a Digital to Analogue Converter - the thing which turns the digital data from a CD, DVD or MP3 file into actual audio. The squeezebox (like your CD player) has one built in, but some people like to use a dedicated box for that purpose, running the digital outs from the player into the DAC, and then RCA from that to the amp.

Whether it's worth it depends on your ears and budget
