Slim server dying

Hello
I am having issues with Slimserver 6.1 and 6.0.x. When I turn the Squeezebox on and use one of the arrow keys on the remote control the slimserver process dies. I then restart slimserver and everything will work fine until the next day when I go to use the squeezebox again. One strange thing is that after restarting slimserver it seems to work fine for the rest of the day no matter how many times I turn off/on the squeezebox. I have the Rescan music library function on to run at 4am every night, not sure if that is related.

I run slimserver on gentoo linux with mysql on the backend, I see "MySQL server has gone away" in the logs but the MySQL server seems to be running fine.

Sounds like this:

Mysql isn't officially supported as yet, but the report does point out a few
workarounds/patches to try.
