    Question Internet Radio

I haven't bought a Squeezebox yet, but I am considering it. My concern is with radio. I read a lot about access to subscription services like shoutcast, radio365 or whatever. What I want to know is, can I just access a station like I can from my PC? Specifically, can I access the French classical music station France Musiques (link at http://www.radiofrance.fr/chaines/fr...siques/direct/ ).

I'd be really grateful if someone who has a Squeezebox could actually go there and try it, so I have a practical answer rather than a theoretical one.

    Thanks

    David

Shoutcast is free, no subscription needed.

This depends on your system and on the stream: if it's mp3, no problem. If
it's wma and you're running windows, you might be fine. If it's a
realplayer stream, you'd need to install additional software (AlienBBC,
    mplayer).

You can try this yourself: download the slimserver software, install it.
Connect to http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 using your favourite player
    (winamp, xmms...)

There's a radio link in the help section of the player's web interface
(http://localhost:9000) where you can paste your station's url.

    Internet Radio

    Hi,

I've had a go and I couldn't make it work

The site essentially provides a lot of HTML wrapping to generate a windows
media player on a webpage. I traced it through to identify the stream but I
either made a mistake, or the use of cookies means that it is not
straightforward to listen to the stream.

So as an initial comment listening to this station is not completely
straightforward and may not be possible, however there are plenty of other
experts around that might take it further.

For the record I believe the stream URL is something like

base + identifier + unique tag

    Base:
    http://direct.yacast.fr/cgi-bin/WebO...erture?mid=165
    418&idappel=
    Identifier: ecoute_france-musique_x200_s60
    tag: &uniq=12345678

the part after the uniq tag represents the result of a getTime() javascript
    call (so it's probably wrong

Sorry it's not initially good news

By the way if you take this further and want to test more if you downlaod
the server software you can use softsqueeze. This is an emulator for the
SqueezeBox2. If you can get the radio you want using the server and
softsqueeze then it will work with the DqueezeBox2 hardware.

Don't give up (still one of my favourite songs ;-))

It's simpler than that: if you open the web page you'll find the media
player opject, which will connect to
    "http://cache.yacast.fr/V4/francemusique/fmusique.asx". Copy/paste that
link to the "tune in" field I mentioned in the other mail. It worked right
away on my linux server (I have AlienBBC and mplayer installed).

(going back on-list - there's still something wierd with the reply-to
    header...)
