most stable build

what is currently the most stable, bug-free build? 5.4.1 or 6.0.1?

It would be useful to have this signposted on the site... which of
course begs the old question about how mature the mainstream releases
should be... but for now i just need to know which release will play
uninterrupted music the longest

This depends on what you need to be doing and who you ask. Me, I'm finding 6.1
to be quite stable and I use it all the time. I'm not hammering on plugins,
and I'm anglo-canadian so the high-ascii characters are at a minimum (nearly
non-existent). Looking through the bugs list, a large portion are rather
stubborn remnants of character handling. Of course, 5.4.1 doesn't support
accented characters at all, nor does it support SB2, database access for faster
search, etc.

I've had 5.4.1, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, and 6.1 running music of mainly mp3/flac for
easily 6 hours or more (not, of course, on the same day

5.4.1. But if you need to run an SB2 you must run 6.something.

I've been running the 6.0.2 nightlies with good results. I'm surprised that 6.0.2 hasn't been officially released yet - there must be dozens of bug fixes since 6.0.1. Not exactly time-tested, but how much worse can it be than the 6.0.0 and 6.0.1 releases?

Funny I found 5.4.0 more stable than 5.4.1. Might be just my setup.
6.0.1 lately has been quite stable for me.

Sorry, kdf, but of course it does support accented characters
perfectly well. My problems only arised when I upgraded to the 6.x
branch.

ok, well unicode then. a bit more global version of characters.

your problems are because unicode support means the server has to be more
specific about handling every type of codeset in use, and many situations can
run into multiple codesets. But, of course, I might just be lying...
