Announce: New Forums - and email list gateway - PleaseRead!

It's been obvious for some time that a better forums / email interface has
been needed. We've been working hard the past few days to bring up a solution
that works for everyone.

Here's the breakdown:

New Web Forums are up at http://forums.slimdevices.com/ - using vBulletin.

The discuss list is now split up into the following forums, and their
corresponding mail lists:

Mail list subscription: http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

* Linux / Unix Issues - unix (AT) lists (DOT) slimdevices.com

* 3rd Party Plugins (AlienBBC, etc) - plugins (AT) lists (DOT) slimdevices.com

The gateway between the mail lists and the web forums runs every 5 minutes -
so if you see a delay, that's where it's coming from.

Mail sent from the mail lists will appear on the forums as "Your Name" with
"Guest" underneath. If you sign up for a forums account, and your email is
the same as on the mail lists, that "Guest" tag will go away.

Mail sent from the forums will appear on the mail lists as "Your Name"
<bogus-email (AT) no-mx (DOT) forums.slimdevices.com> - with a Reply-To: set to the mail list.

wow, cool... I noticed a ton of unread messages popping up in Trash
Maybe now the forum flamefests are finished?

there are too many different forums, too few forums, no forums
specific for my Asian Pear(tm) computer, "Why are you talking about

Where's the checkin archive gone? I suspect it is there, but I was relying on the old forum web page to find it...

Perhaps you could add details of the checkin list to the resources page in the Subversion Archive bit?

Any reason not to gateway the checkins to the forums system? Or is it
not possible to make a forum read-only?
