    SlimServer and Win 2003

Will SlimServer run on Windows 2003? Does the user have to be logged into
the box to run the app, or does it run as a service? Are there supporting
libraries that need to be installed?

    Thank you,

Yeah, I ran it on a 2003 Server machine for a little while. Just use
the installer and check the box that says, "start automatically" and
it'll run as a service. To use the EXE version on Windows, you don't
need anything extra like Perl. All the Perl modules are included with
    the distribution.

    Yes.

It does run as a service.

Only if you're using 3rd party plugins which use additional modules.

Be sure to open your machine's firewall on the required ports!

Me personally, I was moving it off my XP Pro machine to a different
machine so that I could have a dedicated server. I tested it with
2003 Server on a 750 MHz Athlon with 512 MB of RAM, and I was still
getting the dropouts I was getting on my XP machine, so it wasn't a
really great improvement. I wound up ditching 2K3 after about a week
and a half and tried some various Linux distributions until I found
one I liked (Ubuntu). I still get like a half-second dropout once an
hour or so, but it's way better than what I was getting under Windows.
