Thanks again for your help. After routing around, I found some info
about an install bug for udev & Mandrake 10.1. I used MandrakeUpdate
to download the bugfix but for some reason udev was still not starting
from bootup. However, after a bit more searching I found some more
advice and running chkconfig -add udev resolved the problem. Thankfully
everything is working perfectly now. I really appreciate your help.
