Max instances of squeezelite is 4 ?

    Hi,

Yesterday I wanted to add an extra instance of squeezelite to my system by the addition of an extra raspberry pi 3 with hifiberry.
First I tried with wifi, but the player could not be found. Than I switched to a wired system but still no luck. Went to sleep at that time.

My LMS restarts every night, so when I woke up this morning player in the bathroom was suddenly gone out of the system and the new player (laundry room) was in.
We noticed because the player in the bathroom was playing as always, but did not stop automaticly as supposed; This is when I went checking in LMS what was going on... The player in the bathroom starts at 5.30 AM and should stop at 6.25 AM. So it looks like this player is kicked out of the LMS somewhere between the starting and stopping time. Strangly, the LMS restarts every night at 5.00 AM; so on influence was expected.

    My setup:

1x raspberry pi with LMS and 2 instances of squeezelite (more than 2 years already) (livingroom)
1x raspberry pi with 1 instance of squeezelite (Bathroom) (half a year already)
1x raspberry pi with 1 instance of squeezelite (garden) (1.5 year)

New raspberry pi with 1 instance of squeezelite (laundry room), newly added yesterday evening.

"Advanced IP scanner" sees all 4 raspberry pi.

    log from server:

    Hi,

    there is no limit!

please check from the new and the lost rpi the squeezelite settings.
My guess is: youve copied the config and the new squeezelite uses an already used mac because of the clone.

Looks like I fixed it by uncommenting the following in squeezelite settings and change the last 0 to 4.

    Code:
    # ----- MAC ADDRESS -----
    # Uncomment the next line (remove hash) if you want to change the mac address ($
    SL_MAC_ADDRESS="00:00:00:00:00:04"
Still strange, because it works like a charm without uncommenting for the others....

I always create new players, so do not clone. (I always forget to create an image of an existing system....)
    But thanks for the hint

The players are always created from zero. So no copy is used of anything... Just very strange that the MAC adress is not used...

Doesn't really matter at this point; a solution was found

Mac address is used to identify each player - if not explicitly specified, squeezelite will use the network interface MAC address. If running more than one instance of squeezelite on same device - then you need to provide a unique MAC address to have both player active at same time. IIRC LMS supports a UUID to also identify a player but I don't think Sqeezelite support defining the UUID.

    ROFLOL

that line is from this script http://www.gerrelt.nl/RaspberryPi/squeezelitehf.sh

if you use something like copy & paste or wget - all of these tasks are called copy.

    True..

However, the mac adress should work without uncommenting it...
The not copying of players is offcourse refered to cloning the file of existing players within my system and not the the original file of Gerrelt.

    hi,

lets face it i am not using the scripts from gerrelt and its a thing with two sides.
These scripts helps non nerdish people to make something they never would archive without these.
But you have to sort things out and a wise guy told me some years ago:
A Program /script / batch whatever is only that smart as the coder allows it.
I will start another thread for you and link this thread.
    ok?

    done...
