Squeezebox suddenly starting all songs at 2:56 and no audio comes out

i was running 7.9.0 and things were going smoothly, then suddenly any song i chose (either via remote, the iphone app, or web control panel) would start playing at 2:56 and no sound would come out of my system.

i uninstalled that and installed the latest nightly build (7.9.1), rescanned my library, and the same thing is happening.

any ideas?

i don't recall adding any plugins and i just checked the web interface as well as the player menu interface and didn't find any plugins at all.
