    flac2mp3 with ffmpeg and metatags

    Hello Forum,

    I like to convert flc to mp3 with ffmpeg. For that, I have made a custom-convert.conf like:

    flc mp3 * *
    # IFT:{START=-ss %s}U:{END=-t %w}D:{RESAMPLE=-ar %d}B:{BITRATE=-B %B}
    [ffmpeg] $START$ -i $FILE$ $END$ -map_metadata 0 -id3v2_version 3 -c:v copy -f mp3 -qscale:a $QUALITY$ -

    It does convert flac files to mp3 with the right name. But the metatag informatiion is not included.

    I have proven with htop, that this commandline is used.

    Does anybody know what am I doing wrong?

    By the way, this way is much slower, compared to the standard way. But I hoped to save the metainformation. Because Squeeze Comander App is abel to download files from the server with transcoding. But that is no good without tag informations in the file.

    Greetings

    SOLVED ??

    If I use ID3V1 it looks like it is working:

    Code:
    flc mp3 * *
    	# FB:{BITRATE=-ab %B}T:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v}D:{RESAMPLE=-ar resample %d}
    	[ffmpeg] -y -i $FILE$ -vn -map_metadata 0 -write_id3v1 1 -c:v copy -f mp3 -qscale:a $QUALITY$ $RESAMPLE$ $BITRATE$ -

    I think metadata is picked up when all fiels are scanned and the database is built and this is then used for display - the metadata in the file is ignored when it is being played.

    Streamed MP3 has simple metadata (e.g. StreamTitle) inline using ICY.

    solved with oggenc

    So it works fine with ogg instead of mp3:

    custom-convert.conf

    Code:
    flc ogg * *
    	# IFT:{START=-ss %s}U:{END=-t %w}D:{RESAMPLE=-ar %d}B:{BITRATE=-B %B}
    	[oggenc] -Q -q$QUALITY$ -o - $FILE$
    I use this oggenc which supports native flac decoding and converting to ogg:

    http://repo.or.cz/w/vorbis-lancer-gc...b/HEAD:/oggenc

    Squezze Comander can be set up to ask for ogg files instead of mp3.

    It might be helpfull for others as well.

    If you are streaming a file - LMS should be using the metadata saved in the file during scanning.

    So any metadata in the file will be displayed regardless of its transcoding.

    Why are you using ffmpeg to transcode and not the default LMS transcode using flac / lame. If it is because metadata is not being displayed - then the problem is in the flac file scanning.

    An MP3 stream is sent to a mplayer - the MP3 decoders in the players do not process metadata and so cannot send it back to LMS to display except for streaming MP3 direct with ICY "streamTitle".

    edit:
    I've just realised - what you really want is to save the transcoded file and not play it. I can't help anymore.

    Conversion rule to ogg outdo native play back, bug or feature?

    Hello Forum members,

    I have added a convert rule from flc to ogg in custom-convert.conf, like the existing rule flc to MP3.

    Code:
    ## new in custom-convert.conf
    flc ogg * *
    	# IFT:{START=-ss %s}U:{END=-t %w}D:{RESAMPLE=-ar %d}B:{BITRATE=-B %B}
    	[oggenc] -Q -q$QUALITY$ -o - $FILE$

    ## sample from convert.conf
    flc mp3 * *
    	# FB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v}D:{RESAMPLE=--resample %D}
    	[flac] -dcs $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ $RESAMPLE$ -v $BITRATE$ - -
    I would expect that this rule should be used only if a squezzebox is unable to play flc natively or if a squezzebox asks explicitly for ogg files. Therefore, that rule should never be used, because all squezzeboxes (hardware or software) support flc natively. However, what happens is that all flc files are converted to ogg. That is strange to me, because before my additional rule, no flc files were converted to let’s say MP3.

    Is this behavior a bug?

    All my Clients are connected via Ethernet with no bandwidth constraints.
    I can work around this problem for squeezelite players by restricting the used codecs to

    squezzelite –c flc,MP3,PCM
    Obviously, without ogg. Then flc files go to those players as flc, without conversion.
    For my hardware devices Squeezebox 3, Radio and Touch, that does not work.

    Does anybody has an idea how to solve this?

    My Music archive is based on flc and ogg, so, this work around is no good solution anyway.
    Why do I do this? I use “Squezze Comander” for stirring my player and to download music to my mobile phone, with conversion from flc files to smaller ogg files including all tags.

    Is there a way, to change the rule to something like, do NOT USE THIS RULE IF YOU are Player with MAC? So far I found only the way to force a rule to a certain MAC like flc ogg * MAC. I even tried to restrict the rule to the mobile phone MAC, but then the download does not work anymore, because Squezze Comander loads the files with http protocol and not like a “virtual” squezze-player.

    Thanks for your help in advance.

    Enable logging player.source set to DEBUG to see how the rules are being applied.

    The strange thing is, suddenly flc flc * * is gone !!! and all flac files are converted via ogg

    Another strange thing is; my setting
    player => audio => band with limit is NONE
    player => audio => quality [0 - 9] is now used for quality in the ogg command:

    Code:
    17-10-27 20:00:57.8573] Slim::Player::Song::open (482) URL is a song (audio): file:///media/hd/music/ohne_ip/DTS/STING/STING%20Symphonicity%20World%20Tour%20Berlin%205.1/1%20DD%20Symphonicity%20World%20Tour%20Berlin.ac3.flac, type=flc

    [17-10-27 20:00:57.8582] Slim::Player::Song::open (558) Tokenized command: "/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/i386-linux/oggenc" -Q -q9 -o - "-"
    [17-10-27 20:00:57.9010] Slim::Player::SongStreamController::new (31) live=2
    But ogg download works fine:
    Code:
    [17-10-27 19:59:59.5492] Slim::Player::TranscodingHelper::checkBin (231) Checking formats for: flc-ogg-*-*

    [17-10-27 19:59:59.5499] Slim::Player::TranscodingHelper::checkBin (241)   Found command: [oggenc] -Q -q$QUALITY$ -o - $FILE$
    [17-10-27 19:59:59.5501] Slim::Player::TranscodingHelper::getConvertCommand2 (428) Matched: flc->ogg via: [oggenc] -Q -q$QUALITY$ -o - $FILE$

    I have further on tested to use:

    Code:
    flc ogg * http
    flc ogg * IP# mobile phone
    flc ogg http *
    flc ogg * MAC mobile phone
    flc ogg * MAC of the squezzeplayer started on my mobile phone
    In all cases ogg download does not work, but the player just play fine.

    So maybe you can see my mistake. But I think it is a bug within the server 7.8.1

    Thanks to all, greetings

    IIRC flc-flc is not used when it is not required but then again you are editing the info.

    You are only giving fragments - there are too many variables and not enough info. You need to supply all relevant info - consider the list below.

    Most important - how are you getting the download - is it via a LMS web client (i.e. http) or via slimproto ?

    1. Statement that LMS you are using is as distributed with no modificcaiton or plugins that mess with filetypes / conversion etc.
    2. Image of all your filetypes settings.
    3. What are all the convert.conf and custom-convert.conf files on your system ?
    4. Complete logs of trying to play one item. Make sure new clean log file before
    5. Clear & full explanation of the players and a log of the capabilities the player has declared to LMS.

    edit

    I don;t uinderstand the following
    Code:
    flc ogg * http
    flc ogg * IP# mobile phone
    flc ogg http *
    flc ogg * MAC mobile phone
    flc ogg * MAC of the squezzeplayer started on my mobile phone

    The 3rd param is destination device type - IIRC http is a device type only used with stream.mp3 Are you using the web client ?
    the 4th param is destination device id - this is MAC address of squeezebox device. IIRC It is only an IP address when you are streaming to the stream.mp3 facility

    If you are using the web cient to download in some way - then it is possibly considered to be "streaming" - there is no "I" support for "Flc Flc" so it is not applicable but you have supplied "I" support for "flc ogg" so it will be used.
    This can only be clarified when the downloading method is detailed.

    Without more info on how you played files and which fiels are bing played by which method I can only guess.,
    You have edited out the "streammode" info from the excerpts but some are shown in the log file.

    .

    Some of your stream are being streams in "I" mode and some in "F" mode. but not all your rules have an "I" mode and so may not be applied and it is not clear why differentmodes are being used - depends on the invoking method and the player.

    Code:
    flc ogg * *
    # IFT:{START=-ss %s}U:{END=-t %w}D:{RESAMPLE=-ar %d}B:{BITRATE=-B %B}
    	[oggenc] -Q -q$QUALITY$ -o - $FILE$
