    Podcast Help

    I am not having much luck playing this podcast (Dan Barreiro) on my Squeezebox players. Looks like the stream is MPEG-4.

    The URL I'm trying to load is:
    https://post.futurimedia.com/kfxn/playlist/rss/7.xml

    The episodes appear but I get an error:
    'Unable to play file type for'

    The podcast moved a couple weeks ago. There are older versions (URL's) out there but aren't being updated anymore.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Are you using LMS or mysqueezebox.com ?

    I think you'll need to use LMS 7.9.1 as the URLs are now https rather than http. https is not supported by player using mysqeezebox.com or older versions of LMS.

    Thanks bpa.

    I was on 7.9.0. Just installed 7.9.1 but I do get the same error. I'm at work testing via softsqueeze though if that matters.

    The player can matter as some players can play m4a natively.

    Do you really mean softsqueeze (java emulation of SB3 etc) or squeezelite/squeezeplay ?

    I can play the podcast on my SB receiver but I have hacked my m4a filetypes to use ffmpeg/avconv rather than the default faad.

    FWIW: 7.7.6 should be good enough. I back-ported those changes.

    Just checked - For players that need transcoding (i.e. do not support AAC), the default LMS handling of MP4 using faad cannot handle remote URLs (i.e. podcasts).

    A custom-convert.conf for mp4 using ffmpeg on Linux would be
    Code:
    mp4 mp3 * *
    	# FRB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}
    	[ffmpeg] -loglevel quiet  -f mp4 -i $FILE$ -f wav - | [lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ $BITRATE$ - -

    mp4 pcm * *
    	# FRB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}
    	[ffmpeg] -loglevel quiet  -f mp4 -i $FILE$ -f u16le -

    mp4 flc * *
    	# FRB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}
    	[ffmpeg] -loglevel quiet -f mp4 $START$ -i $FILE$ -f flac -

    I had read some older threads that mentioned ffmpeg, that might be the path I need to go down.

    I am on Windows so I assume the custom-convert.conf file would be pretty different? I'll take a look.

    Got it working. Thankfully the script that you posted worked perfectly on Windows as well.

    I appreciate it!!

    FYI - it doesn't seem to work on Softsqueeze but it does work on the Boom and Radio and that is where I really wanted to listen to it anyways so all is good.

    The podcast should have played OK on Radio with default LMS (i.e. no custom-convert.conf)
    I'd have expected Softsqueeze to be like Boom and play the podcasts as it emulates the older SB players but Softsqueeze is so old and out of date I'm not sure what other factors might be at play.
