Writing plugin for picoreplayer / jivelite

I would like to write a simple plugin for picoreplayer / jivelite, where the screen displays a couple of buttons. When the buttons are clicked, it sends a GET request to my home automation server, which then turns some light off or on.
Is there a tutorial or instructions which shows how to write a plugin?
Even if it's a simple "Hello World" sample that I can use as a basis and build upon it.

You'd probably want to implement this as an Applet on the device itself,
    without a server plugin:

This gives you more freedom creating your UI.

Thanks, for the quick reply. I'll take a look at it.

I finally found some time to start working on the applet and I have a couple of questions.
Is there any example or documentation on a basic applet so I can use it as a starting point? (Maybe a "Hello World" example I can add to the menu and do something, or instructions on how to add the applet to the menu.)
Is there documentation on the jive.ui elements? I found a list of the elements but I have not found any documentation on the properties or methods for each element.

    Thanks in advance.
