    Distinguishing albums with identical titles

This must have been asked before but I can't seem to find the answer by using the search function.

I have multiple albums with the same name, i.e. "Artist 1 - Live" and "Artist 2 - Live" or "Artist 3 - EP" and "Artist 4 - EP." LMS groups these together. I'd rather have 'em separate. All files are FLAC.

Is there a LMS setting or, preferably, a tag I can use to ensure these are treated as unique albums in the library?

EDIT: In case it matters, I use one folder per release. So the multiple albums named "Live" live in separate folders.

Ok, what you are describing does not happen for me on LMS 7.9. If the ARTIST is different, then the same ALBUM will show up under each artist with the appropriate tracks and artwork. Can you dump the tags on two albums that "mix" together so we can take a look?

How are you trying to search for/find music ? Could it be that you are doing an album search rather than an artist one ?

I am running Logitech Media Server 7.9.0 (build no. seems to be 1453293926).

If the ARTIST is different, then the same ALBUM will show up under each artist with the appropriate tracks and artwork.
The artist is indeed different. An example where this happens. The first album is DJ Sneak - EP. The second album is Thee J Johanz - EP. The first album has six tracks (I have the complete release), the second album has one track (the actual album contains four tracks, but my digital version only has one as I only digitized A1).

LMS creates one composite album with seven tracks out of the two. The same composite, seven-track album will be listed under both artists. In both cases, the artwork displayed will be the one from the Thee J Johanz (even though the DJ Sneak has different artwork embedded)

Can you dump the tags on two albums that "mix" together so we can take a look?

Thanks. I have this set to "Treat multi-disc albums as a single album" (my own translation from my German-language LMS). From the explanation of "group discs", I would find it counter-intuitive if this is the setting to change. I also am not sure if I want to change that setting, as I prefer to have my rip of a multi-disc CD album to show up as a single album in LMS.

Furthermore, I'm not sure this is the issue. To me, the problem seems to be that somehow LMS treats this as a compilation even though it shouldn't.

Try renaming the folders. Eg. EP1, EP2 etc - They arent used in the database as anything other than a location reference but perhaps LMS is reading them as one and the same. Its the tags that are used for the database but as others have said the fact that they have different folders shoud be sufficient.

    hmmm.. did you tried it?-
you could revere it if its not working.
i do have plenty of "best of" live in montreux; mtv onplugged and stuff like that - no unwanted miups between my stuff.

You could add MusicBrainz tags that way you never get false albums stick together. But need some time so run all your files.

Mnyb and DJanGo, thanks! I just went through the thread chronologically and as d6jg's suggestion resolved the issue, I stopped right there.
