    LMS newbie, 1st setup, need advice on players, thinking chromecast

    i have been given an old readynas nv+ v1 that i filled with 4x2tb drives and consolidated my music collection onto it. i upgraded the squeezecenter plugin to LMS 7.75 version and am now looking at options for players. i was inclined to go with chromecast audio devices but after installing phillipe's plugin the notes indicate compatiblity with arm or x86 processors. is there no support for the sparc series of readynas? if not, what player would be recommended for this system? thanks alot.

    I'm way out of my depth with this, but couldn't you mount the readynas as a drive on whatever is running your LMS and then point LMS at this drive?

    I'm surprised you'd look into the players after installing the server
    :-). LMS only makes sense with SB and compatible devices.

    My suggestion would be piCorePlayer. Not only do they make for cool
    players. But I'd move LMS to run on a pCP, too. The old ReadyNAS is just
    not up to the task. We even implemented "hacks" in LMS just to support
    the ReadyNAS poor performance. Eg. rendering poorer quality cover art in
    favor of performance. But really, do yourself a favour and don't run LMS
    on it. The time spent installing LMS on pCP will be saved by opening the
    web UI the first time ;-).

    I support fully Michael's comment, espcially if you want to add plugins. I maybe able to build a version for sparc, but that'd be a pain for probably a disapointing result

    [edit]: I added in the dev repository support for upnp and cast. Not sure it will work, I can't test

    Another vote for piCorePlayer on a Pi as your server BUT I'd keep the files on the NAS. It is easy to mount the NAS drive in piCorePlayer and point LMS at it. 7.7.5 is way out of date anyway.
    Pi3 with piCoreplayer music on QNAP TS419p via NFS iThingys/iPeng/Tablets/Jogglers
    Living Room - Joggler & SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s
    Office - Pi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / Pi & SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes
    Dining Room -> SB Boom Kitchen -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio)
    Bedroom (Bedside) - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones
