Hi all,
Loved the idea of piCorePlayer, so I picked up my first Pi recently, threw v2.06 on a spare SD card and started to give it a go. Unfortunately I am having issues with the HDMI audio out to my AV receiver.
Setup:
- Raspberry Pi 3 model B (wired LAN in use)
- Onkyo TX-NR509 AVR
- Samsung TV (though I don't think it's too relevant as the issue happens with it on or off)
- LMS v7.90 1469851679
- Mostly FLAC playback, typically from standard CD but sometimes 24/96 vinyl rips
Issue:
Here's a video of the HDMI blanking I get, which appears to make the AVR lose detection with the signal from the Pi:
Having browsed the config.txt after SSHing in, I found the config_hdmi_boost parameter and changed it to 4 as described, which did reduce their frequency - but I continue to get a break in audio along with artefacting present from time to time. Sometimes 3 occurrences within a 5 minute track, sometimes once in a 30 minute play of an album...
Some things I've tried:
- Another HDMI cable
- Changed config_hdmi_boost to 4 and also 7
- Disabled HDMI CEC in config.txt
- Disabled HDMI CEC on the TV
- Enabled full debug logging and seen:
Please note the above may include some fiddling and Pi reboots. Since I only see the audio stop on my AVR, I have a feeling (tell me if I'm wrong) that the network (fully switched and wired) from my file server running LMS to the Pi is fine, it's solely down to the HDMI link?Code:$ tail pcp_squeezelite.log [19:32:22.299496] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt [19:32:23.300628] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt [19:32:24.301769] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt [19:32:25.302895] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt [19:32:26.290591] process:512 strm [19:32:26.290650] process_strm:267 strm command t [19:32:26.290667] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt [19:32:27.291746] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt [19:32:28.292879] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt [19:32:29.294006] sendSTAT:182 STAT: STMt
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
dafty

Is that an Onkyo receiver? Based on the bad experiences I've had with multiple Kodi builds, multiple Pi versions and two different Onkyo receivers, I think there's a fundamental incompatibility between the Pi HDMI output and Onkyo's HDMI inputs. It's been a long time since I've tried HDMI with piCorePlayer, but I remember it not being bit-perfect, which meant it wouldn't work DTS or AC-3 (not a big concern for most people, but a showstopper for me).
On the other hand, I've had no problems at all feeding either Onkyo with any Pi equipped with a Digi+.

What are your ALSA settings for the HDMI out? Mine are 80:4:32:0.

I should probably be more clear: I was unable to get bit-perfect via HDMI with Squeezelite, whether it was piCorePlayer or Max2Play.
I can get some version of bit-perfect with Kodi and HDMI, but I have exactly the same intermittent dropout issue as daftykins is having. I may well have had that issue with Squeezelite as well, but I didn't use it with HDMI long enough to find out. Once I found it wouldn't work with DTS, I switched to S/PDIF.
Allegedly an Oppo 103 is arriving today. I'm curious if plugging the Pi into its HDMI input will result in better behavior.

Split CM-106like USB DAC to separte zones?
Is it possible to split a CM-106 7.1 USB DAC (Logilink cm0099) into four stereo channels to feed up to four separate squeezelite instances on one pi?
Someone seems to have successful done this similar with m2p:
How can I add the correct lines to the piCorePlayer asound.conf?Code:`pcm_slave.logilink { pcm “hw:1,0” channels 8 rate 44100 # format “S16_LE” # periods 128 # period_time 0 period_size 1024 buffer_size 4096 } pcm.garage { type plug slave.pcm { type dshare ipc_key 1024 ipc_key_add_uid false ipc_gid audio ipc_perm 0660 slave logilink bindings [ 0 1 ] } } pcm.bad { type plug slave.pcm { type dshare ipc_key 1024 ipc_key_add_uid false ipc_gid audio ipc_perm 0660 slave logilink bindings [ 2 ] } } pcm.schlaf { type plug slave.pcm { type dshare ipc_key 1024 ipc_key_add_uid false ipc_gid audio ipc_perm 0660 slave logilink bindings [ 7 ] } }
What should my user command line look like?
Code:/mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/squeezelite-armv6hf -n piCorePlayer02 -o hw:CARD=? -a 80:4:: -m 01:02:03:04:05:06 -z
thanks in advance
