I haven't been using the bridge for a long time but started to set up a new server with piCorePlayer. Installed LMS and the 0.2.12.5 version of the bridge.

It shows the start of the MAC address of all discovered players as bb:bb. In the xml file and in the list at the bottom of the GUI page. Router is showing correct values.

So I looked at 3 other installations of LMS and UPnPBridge (Windows Home Server, D-Link DNS-327L and Synology DSM5.2). All updated to bridge 0.2.12.5. The MACs of previously found players all show OK. But any that are deleted and then re-added by clicking 'Generate' have the bb:bb corruption. See screenshot.

    What gives?

It's not a corrupted MAC. A while ago, I decided to add bb:bb in front of the UPnP MAC addresses. Last 4 bytes are the true MAC address when readable, otherwise it's a hash of the unique ID. The reason is that some players do support UPnP & AirPlay and if I use the real MAC address, then it creates a conflicts. So AirPlay are aa:aa, UPnP bb:bb (and Chromecast cc:cc)

Announce: UPnPBridge = integrate UPnP/DLNA players with LMS (squeeze2upnp)

    Philippe,

I spent a lot of time to setup and fine tune UPnPbridge for my Denon AVR-X4000 the last days.

Out of a number of observations, this is the one that strucked me most:
There is a dependency between the ‘common parameters’ and individual player’s setup which I didn’t expect.
I noticed it when trying to solve an issue with the automatic track forwards; the move from one track to the next would take very long time, if at all happen. This was after I changed the allowed Codecs for the Denon.

Only after the order of Codecs was the same in the players tab as well as in the ‘Common Parameters’, the playback functioned seamless and also Gapless play worked again.

    Supported Codecs:
Common parameters: pcm,flc,mp3 -> to fix set: flc,pcm,mp3
    Denon: flc,pcm,mp3...

Uncompressed set to wav instead of raw for the Denon. Oh and the Codecs had to be flc then pcm, not vice versa.. wow I’m done...

I will add a log protocol in case you’d like to check.

    Gerhard

One suggestion: sine it takes so much time and effort to configure players for this plugin, would it be feasible to ship it with a library of known parameters that users could contribute too?
    Or even an online library?
I get a lot of questions of iPeng users who want to connect their DLNA hardware but for most average users this is too hard to set up.

If hosting of such a library is an issue I’d volunteer to do that.

There is already a ´known profiles' file that can be used for that purpose and can also be updated on line but I don't receive very often feedback from users, so it does not change much. Maybe the UI does not show well enough how to use it as well. I can also set a less aggressive default profile to maximize compatibility, at the expense of things like gapless and codecs, that I could limit to flac and mp3 (less confusion with raw pcm which does not bring anything anyway and 99% of players support flac nowadays)

I don't think there is dependency. Each player's config is first loaded with built-in parameters, then the same config is overriden with *defined* common paramaters, then they are overriden one last time by *defined* player's dedicated parameters. This way, any non-blank (= *defined*) parameters erases its predecessor, so to speak. So if you set codecs to "pcm, flc, mp3" in common, you have to set it to either blank (empty) in player's section or to something else if you want an override. But they do not need to be the same.

For codecs order, pcm, flc, mp3: I've seen that LMS tries to always satisfy the codec order (with squeezelite). So in that case, if there is way to transcode into pcm from any other format, it will be done although native format is supported, but later in the codecs list. Stil I have to say that it's not always that clear, there seem to be some "heuristic" where flac is preferred to pcm, I never figured out what's the real logic. Then when pcm is used, it must be decided between raw (just LPCM sample, no header) and PCM in a WAV. Some players (Sonos) refuse raw, some refuse wav.

But again, normally codecs are analyzed at runtime and only supported codecs are used, other are discarded. So in your case, if raw audio format is not supported, you can leave it as long as you add "raw, wave". During the matching process, the bridge will get the best match

    Thanks

You're right, I tried but couldn't reproduced that behaviour. Must have confused the player in some other way, sorry.

Here's my configuration containing the one for the DENON AVR-X4000 receiver - please add it to the profiles. I'm sure this will satisfy most Denon X family receivers and should help people a lot.. I wish it had been there before..

idea: promote submitting profiles more prominent, and explain how to do that in more detail. Even to find this forum thread, coming from the plugin's configuration page or the User Guide is a challenge. In the User Guide you are asking people to submit their configuration referring to the slimdevice forum but there's no link to here...

Cannot say much about that, but defaulting to "wav, raw" sounds good in that case. Gapless also seems pretty much standard to me, today.
